Huevos Divorciados

We bickered at breakfast, the vibe was all wrong,
Two coffees gone cold, and the silence was long.
But I had a plan, culinary audacious,
To fix up our love with a dish quite bodacious.

I fried up two eggs, kept them sunny, unflawed,
But placed them apart — like they’d had a divorce.
One bathed in red salsa, the other wore green,
Two halves of a quarrel, still sharing one scene.

“Behold!” I declared, “Huevos Divorciados!
A metaphor breakfast, for healing our throes.
They argue on plates, yet together they sizzle,
Like us when we fight, then make up in a drizzle.”

She cracked up and laughed, put her fork through the yolk,
“Only you,” she said, smiling, “would cook up this joke.”
And with that, my friend, peace was restored,
By eggs, salsa roja, and love re-adored.
