I have been reorganizing our shelves since the books were hastily placed to be ready for June Fling. Our non-fiction section is looking a lot better now! Things will be grouped according to sub-genre in every genre we have here at Traveler’s. I have many other shelves to get through this week, but it’ll be worth it!

Since our GRAND OPENING is less than a week away now, I’ll tell you a little bit about some of the things in the store.

All of our tea leaves are sourced from Piper and Leaf: an Alabama company that grows nearly all their product on Alabama farms. It’s not your average red diamond sweet tea. We’ve got fruit infusions like Sweet Dixie and Orchard Peach. Our green teas –which were our best sellers on our soft opening– are brighter, lighter, and overall refreshing. Those include Springdrop Spritzer and Strawberry Sassyfrass. Last but not least are our black teas. Bolder in flavor and stronger in caffiene, Front Porch Special is the closest to your standard Alabama sweet tea you can get and is a major best seller for a reason. We’ll have other flavors on the menu too, so feel free to try something new when you visit!

The adorable bookmarks you see dangling on the antique tea towel stand are hand made by my friend Alysia Holt. She spent months experimenting with which fabrics, canvas, threads, and string to see what would be durable and small enough to function as an efficient bookmark. You can see the love and creativity she’s put into each one.

Let me tell you, when the health department approved us to be open for June Fling I genuinely jumped for joy. For those of you that made it to our soft opening on Saturday, this photo was taken Friday morning. Our shelves were still largely unorganized, not a drop of tea had yet been brewed, nor a decoration hung on the wall. I had so much help and support from my friends and family, as well as the Oneonta community to make Saturday possible for us. That Friday night it hit me, as we locked our doors at half past midnight that this dream is really coming true. A few hours later, the community showed up and supported us just as they said they would. A lengthy thankful post will be coming soon to list everyone who has helped us during this process.

When we began building our vision for the store, I originally didn’t think about a children’s section. But any time the bookstore came up in conversation, people would always ask if there would be a place for kids to read. Now, I can’t imagine the store without it. I have so many fond memories of reading as a child and now my hope is that other kids will get to build those memories too.

Here at your local BookCafe, we try to support local as much as possible. Local authors, local craft makers, local art, and even local tea. You can see our local artists creations as soon as you walk through our door.

Piper and Leaf Tea Company is based out of Huntsville and grows 75% of their product on Alabama farms. When you shop with us, you’re supporting your neighbor, and keeping your dollars in the community.

Our soft opening was a major success! The out pouring of love and encouragement from the community was incredible!

You all made my day. I hope to make yours by letting you know our grand opening will be on Friday, June 19th. We rushed a few things to be able to be open for the festival, so now we will spend the next 2 weeks organizing and cleaning up so we can run the store full time.
