What an interesting month August has been. Itโs been so hot lately that weโve had to slow down a little, but honestly, that has given us something Iโm really grateful for: more time with our nieces and nephews.
This August feels a little different, though. My youngest niece is starting high school, and my youngest nephew is moving far away for college. Two completely different beginnings, but both reminders of how quickly time passes. Thereโs something so bittersweet about watching the kids youโve known and loved for years begin to grow into their own lives. One is taking her first steps into high school, while the other is preparing to leave home, go to college, and find his own path so far away.
Of course, Iโm going to miss having my nephew close by. Thereโs a part of me that wishes I could slow everything down and keep these moments from passing so quickly. But I also know that loving someone means wanting them to experience the world, even when that means going somewhere far away to do it. And maybe thatโs why this slower season with Ferrylicious has felt especially meaningful. Running this business has taught me how much the people around us become part of our story. Our customers, our friends, the families who bring their kids, the people who stop by for a taiyaki and stay to chat- you all become little pieces of the memories weโre making, too.
Sometimes people come into our lives for a moment, and sometimes we have to watch the people we love move into a new chapter. I think thatโs what this August has reminded me most: life is made up of so many little seasons, and theyโre all worth savoring. The first days of high school. The bittersweet goodbye before college. And all of life after. The conversations, the laughs, and all the ordinary moments that somehow become the memories we hold onto.
For now, Iโm trying not to rush through any of it. I want to be present for the growing, the changing, the goodbyes, and the new beginnings. In the end, thatโs what makes life feel full: the people we love, the people we meet, and the memories we make together. Good luck to all the nieces and nephews out there for all of your new beginnings. โค๏ธ
