Listen family, I’m not even gonna keep y’all long this morning…here’s some Okra Soup, Goat meat, Stewed Chicken and Fufu to get the formalities out the way lol but if I tell y’all something got a hold to me this morning on that highway! Baby when that man on that radio said “MIND REGULATOR!!!” I lost it 😭 Heart fixer and SO(U)L provider. Most people really don’t understand that medically I am NOT supposed to be here today! But 10 years ago…10 years ago next month I was given a second chance at LIFE! I’m just grateful this morning y’all. This food is gonna have a whole lotta extra love in it this morning because it’s a celebration up in here 💃🏾 I’ll leave the link to what I was listening to in the comments 👇🏾 Now let me go ahead and gather myself so I can get back to cookin’ 🤣🤣🙌🏾 Love y’all! Happy Friday!

06/26/2026

In honor of my 8th Sleeve-aversary this month, I figured I would scroll through memory lane. Within a 5 year span in my mid 20s, I had gained over 100lbs due to becoming immobile with my spinal condition, medications like steroids and gabapentin for nerve damage, and depression. I could no longer recognize myself and felt like a stranger in my own body.

My decision to have weight loss surgery was one of the best things I could have ever done for myself. It was actually suggested to me by my neurosurgeon back in 2016 to help ease the pressure on my spine, but I was in denial. It was 2018 when I finally decided to go through with it lol.

Not only has the gastric sleeve helped restore my health, like reversing Stage 2 kidney disease after complete kidney failure/dialysis in 2016, but my confidence was restored as well! I was wearing a waist trainer AND slimming garments underneath my dress on the left, and none at all on the right. I'm happy, healthy, and all around more secure with myself and would do it all over again if I had to!

Happy Friday Eve 🙌🏾 Thank y’all so much for today! Love y’all and see you tomorrow 🫶🏾

*and yes I had to hide all of that cleavage I USED to have with kitty paws because cats are my heart lol. But seriously if anyone is contemplating having gastric sleeve surgery, I’m an open book! The pic on my right was at my lowest weight of like 130lbs, but you’re expected to gain about 10-15lb back. To me, this size was actually too small for my 5’6 frame but what do I know 🤷🏾‍♀️Have I slipped up over the years, yup! Have I gained about 25lbs, absolutely but each time I catch myself slipping back into old habits I remember that Tahnee on the left. Not just the physical, but the mental space I was in and I don’t want to see her anymore. I don’t gym because my work is physical enough, but I just cut the late night snacking, sweets, 🤣🤦🏾‍♀️ and up my protein intake. Works every time 🙌🏾

06/25/2026

Why do y’all keep ordering all of this Stewed Chicken today?? 🤣🤣🤣🙌🏾 I am certainly not complaining…I just never sold this much stewed chicken LOL! Thank y’all!

I got here super early so I have some displays for you ❤️ Our Stewed Chicken was really popular yesterday as well as of course our two bestsellers Egusi Soup with Fufu and Efo Riro (Spinach Soup) with Fufu. Oh and the Fried Platters were a hit on DoorDash 🙌🏾 It’s gloomy and cloudy so definitely soup and stew weather ☁️

06/25/2026

Good morning family! I’m up and heading to the kitchen soon. Meteorologist Jonathan Conder says it could get ugly around 5pm so I’ll be monitoring the weather apps in case we need to close early. We do open at 11, so if you want your fix lunch time would be ideal just in case 🤞🏾 Y’all be safe and stay weather aware today. Love y’all, and here is a little summary of Egusi. It’s our #1 dish and mostly enjoyed with fufu but can be eaten with rice as well. Remember we’re also on DoorDash, Ubereats, and Grubhub where you can schedule ahead even before we open. Yup my whole menu is Gluten Free! Oh, and y’all went through a half of case of fish yesterday foolin’ with those Fish Steaks 🤣🙌🏾 Thank you so much for the support! I’ll see y’all soon!

This was the crowd y’all 🤯This is where I served my Egusi Soup with Goat at the James Beard Foundation Awards post ceremony reception at Chicago Union Station! Of course while serving I was at eye level so I knew there were lots of people, but it’s just really hitting my now seeing this view of how big of a night it was. Wow! It’s truly surreal. Being in the midst of the culinary elite. If I tell you a I learned so much in such a few days and walked away with a completely new perspective and even higher level of respect for my colleagues in this industry. Food is truly and art that brings so many together from all cultures and different walks of life. I’m just honored to be able to have had this experience. I know I keep repeating myself, but thank you all so much again for believing in me even when I couldn’t see my potential. I appreciate y’all sooooo much for the constant encouragement daily. Thank you again for a great and busy day family. I’m turning in early, so I’ll see y’all bright and early in the morning. Have a great rest of your evening! Love y’all!

Almost opening time! Here are a few displays! Yes we are a completely gluten free Nigerian restaurant 🙌🏾 Also on DoorDash, Ubereats, and Grubhub 🚗 Let’s talk Okra Soup, Egusi Soup, Fufu and Fish Steaks!

06/22/2026

Stew. It’s always gonna be that Nigerian Pepper Stew. Last week during the James Beard Foundation Awards weekend, we cooked so many gallons, I’m talking about feeding 3000 guests worth of gallons lol. It’s the main staple in Nigerian cuisine that you will find in any Nigerian household at any given time. A blend of bell peppers, tomatoes, and onions (usually with a very spicy scotch bonnet pepper or habanero but I don’t use that at the restaurant), and red palm oil of course. Every morning here at Naija Wife Kitchen I make at least 2 huge pots. It’s used in or on top several of our dishes. Your fave Egusi Soup, Efo Riro (Spinach Soup), and your beloved Fish Steaks with Jollof, Stewed Chicken with Jollof, Goat Pepper Stew, and Plantains, Jollof, and Stew. Not to mention those Stewed Eggs y’all love so much 🤣🙌🏾 Everything is from scratch and yes it takes hours which is my I get to the kitchen so early every morning. It’s truly a labor of love and the first dish I learned how to cook as a Naija Wife 🇳🇬❤️🇺🇸. I’m here y’all, already throwing down and whipping pots. We’re open normal hours this week. Remember that free samples are always available for our walk ins, but we’re also on DoorDash, Ubereats, and Grubhub for delivery. Have a great Monday. I’ll see y’all soon!

06/22/2026

If there was a storm last night, honey I slept right through it 🤦🏾‍♀️I hope everyone is safe! I’m headed to the kitchen in a bit! Love y’all and happy Monday! See you soon!

Happy Father’s Day to all of the dads out there! I’m just making it home from spending time with mine and I couldn’t let...
06/21/2026

Happy Father’s Day to all of the dads out there! I’m just making it home from spending time with mine and I couldn’t let this day go by without giving him his flowers. Many have asked about my drive, work ethic, and determination. The truth is that it comes from what I saw all of my life. My blue collar hard working daddy. 🛠️🪚🧰

Yes, he grew up in poverty to a single mom in an underserved community right here in Oklahoma City. He was told he would be in prison at a young age and would never amount to anything. That same little boy who was talked down on and counted out would go on to marry my mama and accomplish the impossible at a young age. He put his dream on hold of being a comedian (and yes he did stand up locally an in other states), took up a trade and would eventually scale his own 6 figure business. He made sure his family never knew suffering.

As a girl I would wake up early in the morning for school and my daddy wasn’t there. He was already working. Many times I would go to sleep, and my daddy wasn’t home yet because he was still working. When the opportunity came to move to Texas for much better opportunities in his field, he packed us up and we moved. Not that we were doing bad, but he told me later as adult that he felt he was stagnant, and if you’re stagnant…then failure would soon follow.

Countless hours of manual labor, denying himself of personal luxuries all for us. I didn’t fully understand the sacrifice at the time, but I knew what I witnessed. Now at the age of being 40 years old in just a few months, I get to see him retired alongside my mama and enjoying his grandchildren. I get it now more than anything in the world. I understand.

Through my journey with Naija Wife Kitchen, I’ve always kept the motto that there are no excuses because my daddy had not one. If something didn’t work out, he pivoted…even if it meant venturing into the unknown. He is the prime example of if there is a will, there is a way and that hard work, discipline, and determination can get someone further than any naysayer could speak against. Every time I even think about giving up, I look back at his sacrifices and remember what he was able to do.

To all of the dads out there, don’t ever think that your kids aren’t watching. Don’t ever think that you aren’t inspiring. Everyday that you wake up, pat yourself on the back. Even when it doesn’t feel like it, you’re positively impacting your children and they will never forget it.

Hats off to all of you 🎩 Be encouraged and be blessed! Again, Happy Father’s Day!
