Magic Bean Coffee Bazaar

Magic Bean Coffee Bazaar The Magic Bean Coffee Bazaar will provide the community of Ocracoke with a place to share ideas, talents, and dreams over a cup of fair trade coffee!
(313)

The Ocracoke community is an imaginative, intelligent group with few places to gather together in a laid-back, homey atmosphere. The goal of the Magic Bean Coffee Bazaar is to cultivate a creative cooperative that caters to the community’s need for a place to share ideas over coffee, and lounge about on comfortable couches or catch some rays on the back deck and enjoy a tastey guilt free smoothie

and locally made pastry. The Magic Bean will also host weekly community engagement projects such as art classes and open mic nights. We will operate year round so that locals and tourists alike, always have a place to gather, plan, or share with their friends in a lively environment that isn’t their home or a bar. The Magic Bean Coffee Bazaar will serve organic coffee in eco-friendly cups. The beans are regionally roasted and responsibly sourced. This is important because it tastes the best and helps the most people. Rates: Drinks $ 1- $6
Hours of Operation: 6am-6pm Sunday-Friday, Saturday 6am-12noon

need help writing a farewell letter to the patrons of my business and to my friends and to the Magic Bean Coffee Bazaar itself...This is the best I can do. The Magic Bean was a gathering space for our island home that was filled with laughter and music and real/fake people and great food and amazing coffee and generations of artists. Lots of Dogs and Dog lovers and life happened here! It was my home as well as my business and it is a multi faceted, multi dimensional goodbye. 8 years we've been here...Since I was 25. I grew up into a mostly competent adult here. I don't know what will happen to this family of loveable characters that have all landed and launched at the Magic Bean but I do know that we will all be out there somewhere being grateful for the time we spent together amoungst the live oaks and azeleas the cedars and camillas and jasmine and honeysuckle and that insanly huge and invasive and very beautiful wysteria and in the garden with Rita ❤. This is where Abner and Cuddle Bug and Chicken and Waffles and the baby squirrel and an onion meant to represent the cat named Onion are enjoying their forever dreams. I'll miss having low country boils and dance parties potlucks and epic birthdays and surf rock festivals on the back porch. We had poetry slams almost entirely attended by men who were incredibly talented and beautiful and emotionally aware. It was all so incredible! And now I'm sobbing and I'm glad. I've been keeping it together so well up till now! HAHAHAHA, anyone who knows me knows that a big fat lie. It's been a wild ride guys, I love, love, LOVE you all and I can not EVER say THANK YOU enough to everyone who was ever touched by this place and the experience that was the Magic Bean.
P.S. If you have pictures, stories, poems or anything you would like to share with me, I'm putting together a coffee table book with our drink recipes and things from our guest books and community sketchbooks! There will be pictures of all the furry beanie babies!
P.P.S. Thank you, farewell to this first love of mine.

Swan Quarter native, Sam Jones was quite enterprising and creative. As a consequence of inventing an improved stoker for steam locomotives in the early years of the twentieth century he eventually came to own Berkeley Machine Works in Norfolk, Virginia.
Sam loved Ocracoke and made many contributions to the community and people of the island. He is remembered for many good deeds, including significant financial assistance to our budding fire department nearly a half century ago, vaccinations for all of our wild ponies when they were first corralled in the 1950s, and major improvements to both island churches. Sam also built several impressive buildings...Berkeley Manor (near the OPS museum), Berkley Castle (now the Castle Bed & Breakfast), and the Homeplace (on the western shore of Silver Lake).

Sam had a mercurial personality, and everyone who remembers him has a story to tell -- how he chose to serve jail time rather than pay taxes he didn't believe he owed, how he built the Castle and other structures without plans or blueprints (he would just tell his crew what he wanted done that day...then tell them to re-do it if he changed his mind the next morning), how he rode his horse into the living room just because he felt like it, or how he'd call Fowler O'Neal at 2 o'clock in the morning from Norfolk, and tell him his pilot was flying him down to the island so Fowler could cut his hair.

Sam died in 1977 and is buried at Springer's Point, next to his favorite horse, Ikey D.

Today is the day we celebrate Ann and Heather's book commemorating Hurricane Dorian. The day is stormy, windy, and the electricity is out. It is just a mini taste of how a hurricane is, we will be fine not experiencing any rising water.
The book signing is still on so let's make it an adventure!

We will be closed tomorrow and the next day, sorry for the inconvenience ❤️
