Here’s the skinny:
On July 9, Chop Bar shut its doors for good. This decision was not made lightly, as there were many prior conversations surrounding how to keep Chop running successfully, but in the end, we decided that closing would be best to preserve the integrity and memories created by everyone that loved Chop Bar. Unfortunately, we could not in good faith allow the level of service or the quality of our product suffer to keep things going.
Chef Geo and the entire team poured their hearts into Chop Bar and we’re all incredibly sad that we couldn’t make things work, but to put it in so many words; there just weren’t enough butts in seats to sustain financially.
We understand that because we haven’t publicly released anything that there might be some speculation as to the possibility of reopening, but sadly, it’s just not a viable option and to be frank, there just weren’t enough butts in seats to keep the doors open. We’re all disappointed that we couldn’t keep things going for the Oakland Community and have nothing but gratitude and love for those who supported us through the years. created an inviting space for all to gather. We hope that memory is everlasting for anyone who walked through the Chop Bar doors.
We are now trying our best to focus all our energy on running Chop Bar’s sister restaurants Calavera in Uptown Oakland to its fullest potential.
