After almost 10 years and four different businesses later, we have made the difficult decision to close our South Washington Board Room as a Coffee House.
In 2016, I purchased the location from Dunn Bros and began the next chapter by moving Bully Brew Coffee into this beautiful space. The south end of town didnβt develop as much as we had hoped, but our team was dedicated and our landlord was always supportive. During the pandemic, we moved the Roastery business into this location and used the drive-thru for coffee and beans and that decision changed everything. The roastery grew that year, and today we roast over 52,000 pounds annually in our new facility on D**e Avenue. I credit the South Washington location for helping launch that growth.
Later, I partnered with my friends from Half Brothers. The Other Half Coffee & Taphouse was born after our partnership with creating Bully Brew Coffee Brown Ale beer. This was a fun adventure, and so much learning happened for me during that time. Continuing our friendship, we decided to end the Other Half and I bought 100% of the business back. The Board Room Coffee & Taphouse was born. We had loyal managers, incredible beeristas, and even a pink flowered wall painted by one of our team members.
The name βBoard Roomβ is very special to me:
1. It honors our βBoard of Directorsβ our Veterans, our grandpas, and even some of their wives who come in every day for coffee. My dad was part of this group.
2. It also represents the charcuterie boards I love creating breakfast boards, lunch boards, wine boards, and beer boards. That creativity has been my outlet through the harder parts of business. Those boards will continue at our UND location and through catering.
I have opened several Bully Brew Coffee houses and closed a few. This one is especially hard. But being a small business owner means you have to make the numbers work to pay your team, pay the rent, and justify the long days. Unfortunately, this location lost its luster financially, even though we still have some incredibly loyal regulars like our morning Veterans coffee crew, our Friday crew, and our SF Hazelnut drive-thru fan. I held on as long as I could for them. Our plan for this location is to use it for a private event space only, until our lease is ended at the end of October 2026! Our last day open as a coffee house is Monday, February 16th. You can continue to use your Board Room gift cards at Board Room UND.
This is not a failure. It is part of the journey.
Please continue to support local businesses.
There are so many owners just like me working late nights, long weekends, fixing equipment, worrying about payroll, and still showing up with a smile. When you ask for donations from local businesses, we give because we care and we appreciate when you give back by shopping local.
Thank you to every customer who supported us on the South side.
We hope to see you at our UND Board Room location or any of our Bully Brew Coffee houses for coffee.
With gratitude,
Sandi Luck
