About a month ago, I got a call on a busy Friday night from a woman asking if we’d be interested in hosting a mahjong night. She started explaining what mahjong was, and my response was simply:
“I’m Chinese.” 😂
That woman was Jennifer — the powerhouse behind
From the moment we sat down to talk, we instantly connected. Jennifer is warm, smart, full of energy, and deeply passionate about bringing people together through mahjong. More than just a game, it’s a tradition rooted in culture, connection, and community, and her mission is to share that with as many people as possible.
Last night, we hosted our very first Mahjong Night at Mama Chan’s and what a night it was. Jennifer and her incredible team taught everyone how to play Hong Kong-style mahjong, and before long the room was buzzing. Drinks were flowing, the tiles were flying, DJ Howard Cho was spinning tracks, gongs were ringing, and new friendships were being made at every table. It was everything we hoped it would be and more.
We’re so excited to bring a piece of our culture to Northport and we have a feeling this is just the beginning. Thank you to everyone who came out, learned something new and made the night so special. Here’s to many more mahjong nights ahead ❤️
