"Not all heroes have capes... some wear an apron and bandana!" Last night on 6/4, during dinner service around 8pm, our very own Chef Daniel proved that! Here's the story (see comments for more pictures)...
It was brought to management's attention that a Mallard duck was entangled in something and drowning directly outside our patio. It was struggling to keep above water and surely wouldn't survive much longer. We care deeply about nature (including our Northfield ducks) so we quickly sprung to action!
Despite being in the middle of cooking an order, without hesitation, Chef BOLTED for the patio! The distance is over 🔟ft straight down a vertical wall to the river and he just dropped. He trudged thru the current, to the middle of the Cannon River, and somehow caught the duck by hand. (All while still wearing his apron -- with pockets full of his phone, wallet and keys!) He was able to bring the duck to a patch of rocks where he'd just fed some ducks 1 hour earlier! He was then able to identify and remove the entanglement -- which turned out to be fishing line and hook! Chef had a special moment with the duck before letting it go, and we're happy to report it was able to swim and fly away safely!
Our new location is certainly keeping things interesting! We never would've predicted something like this would happen, but what an incredible experience to witness and story to tell! We're so proud of our Chef Daniel!
P.S. Any of our local followers know 1) where can a person get a replacement car key fob? And 2) who's got the best cell phone deal these days? Thanks 😇
