By now everyone should be aware that we’re going to have a lot of out of town visitors August 18-21 for the total solar eclipse on Monday the 21st.
This influx of people may make certain daily tasks more difficult -think gameday in Lincoln - so we’ve put together this list to help locals prepare for this awesome event:
- Get your grocery shopping done about a week or more ahead of time. Not only will you beat the crowds, but this gives our stores time to restock.
- Pick up your prescriptions and/or medical supplies early.
- Get doctor/dentist appointments out of the way. It will start getting crowded the Thursday prior to the eclipse and could remain busy until the following Wednesday.
- Conserve water by not watering your lawn or using “extra” water during the weekend.
- Be prepared for slow (or non-existent) internet as bandwidth will be heavily used.
- Be prepared for cell phones to be busy (or service unavailable).
- Conserve energy by unplugging appliances you are not using and do laundry, use dishwashers, etc., at low peak hours.
- Fill your gas tanks - all of them.
- Get Cash (ATM’s will experience heavy usage or be hindered by slow internet).
- Overall, supplies will be limited and high demand may mean you can’t get all the things you need or want.
- Traffic will be heavy and lines for food and in stores will be long, so exercise patience.
- If you do NOT want visitors on your rural property, please post NO TRESPASSING signs prominently!
Show the visitors your best “North Platte Canteen Spirit Hospitality”. Help these new visitors enjoy our town and encourage them to return.
