We found this in a frame on our wall: an October 3, 1974 article about “The Old Market” — North Little Rock’s original curb market off Washington Ave., where farmers pulled up with truckloads of fresh produce every Tuesday and Saturday, and shoppers lined up for the good stuff. 📰

That market is the reason we’re still here today. Same spirit, same fresh-from-the-farm feel — just with biscuits and gravy added to the mix. 🍳

We’re tucked back off Prothro Junction because that’s where this whole story started — not because we’re hiding. Now you know exactly where to find us.

Yes, we can actually shell your own peas right here. No trip to the country required. 🫛

Monday- Friday from 9-11, you can drop off your peas for $1.00 per pound.

Pull up a chair, grab a handful, and we’ll do the work — it’s fresh, it’s local, and it’s about as real as it gets.

Joe has been part of the BJ’s family for 3½ years and serves as our lead dishwasher—one of those behind-the-scenes roles that keeps everything moving.

Joe is an incredibly hard worker, dependable, and always willing to do what needs to be done. We definitely feel the impact when he isn’t here, and we’re so thankful for everything he brings to the team each day. ❤️

When it’s time to eat, Joe’s favorites are:

🫛 A true taste of a Southern summer!

Our Purple Hull Peas are grown in South Arkansas, where the long, hot summer days create the perfect conditions for this longtime Southern favorite.

Fun fact: Purple Hull Peas aren’t actually peas at all—they’re a type of cowpea, closely related to black-eyed peas. Their name comes from the beautiful deep-purple color of the pods as they mature!

The best part? There are so many delicious ways to enjoy them:

🥓 Simmered Southern-style with bacon, ham, or sausage
🌽 Served with cornbread and fresh tomatoes
🥗 Chilled in a fresh summer salad
🍚 Mixed with rice for a Hoppin’ John-style dish
