arrillo, a professional electrician, and self-taught pastry chef along with a friend and partner, opened a Bakery in Remedios, Villa Clara, Cuba in 1995. They sweetened up the locals with their delicious postres y cakes. Despite the challenges back home, my parents, sister and brother-in-law later opened un Hostal (bed & breakfast) with a restaurant business. They served a variety of authentic Cuban dishes to tourists, which proved to be very successful. Quien soy yo...
Andres Carrillo, Co-Founder of Sweets & Cortaditos and proud son of Sr. Maria Victoria. In Cuba, I attended a tourism school (FORMATUR) and worked at the 5 star resort Sol Cayo Santa Maria. After emigrating to the US in 2003, I attended Kean University and earned my BS in Business Management (2008) while working in the insurance and financial industry. Almost two years ago, the remainder of my family arrived from Cuba.. We decided it was the time to re-start a family business. Capturing my father’s initial entrepreneurial spirit in the bakery business, nacio Sweets & Cortaditos. Family members and good friends helped us re-enter the Bakery-Café pursuit now in Belleville, New Jersey. Our purpose was to bring the family's Cuban experience to this community and the surrounding areas. Our authentic confections are sweet and savory, attracting all nationalities. We have our regulars and newbies from all walks of life. Our winning specialties include Cortaditos (a variety of them), Café con Leche (made our way), authentic Cuban pastries (from a family recipe), cakes and sandwiches including the “Cuban Sandwich” (with our unique twist). Sweets & Cortaditos' endeavor is to expand. The future includes branching into multiple locations, franchising, y por que no... "We can be your Cuban Starbucks!"
