I don’t share this for sympathy, but I do think there’s value in being honest about what small business looks like in a seasonal town.

We expect the winters to be hard. We plan for the slow months and hold our breath a little until summer rolls back around.

What I didn’t expect was to see $0 days in the middle of our season.

Owning a little shop here has been one of the coolest things I’ve done, but this year has also been incredibly humbling. I’ve rearranged, changed hours, brought in new things, cut expenses, tried new ideas and spent a lot of time asking myself what else I can do to make this work.

The part you don’t always see is that I work other jobs too. Not because this little shop is some fun side project, but because right now, that’s what it takes to keep the doors open. A lot of what I earn elsewhere goes right back into keeping this place going.

And I know I’m not the only small business owner doing some version of that ❤️

So this isn’t a “come save us” post. It’s just a reminder that when you choose to spend $10 or $20 at a small shop, grab lunch locally or wander into a business you’ve driven past a hundred times, it matters more than you probably realize.

Especially in little seasonal towns like ours.

Small businesses don’t need everyone to spend hundreds of dollars. We just need enough people to keep choosing us when they can.

I’m still here. Still trying things. Still rooting really hard for this little shop and for all the other small businesses trying to make a go of it here. ❤️
