We support special needs teens and adults in our community through social opportunities and employment readiness programs.

This is some of the most beautiful artwork created by our friend Nicholas Stanko. Nick’s mom Maureen and brother Ken are very close family friends and their mission and our mission overlap in multiple ways.

is beyond thrilled to carry and promote the artwork of Nick in our shop!

The large print we have a minimum suggested donation of $30 and for the smaller prints, a minimum suggested donation of $15.

All donations received for Nick’s artwork will go 100% to support the impactful service project work that Maureen does at her studio

We are incredibly proud of the man that Nicholas has become moved by the fact that his inner thoughts and voice have been unlocked thanks to this speller’s program and blown away by the dedication of his mom and brother in becoming practitioners..

On this day “Mitchell Monday” and the day before the 2 year anniversary of his passing we at Barista Jake want to recognize the tremendous life he lived and how Thanks to his parents Ruth Landsman and David Landsman his legacy lives on in our

In his memory, his parents have donated both a residential oven that we use as a part of our empowerment in action program which has been of tremendous to our last two participants of the program first Cookie Break with Jake
and now Nishi Bansal of Nishi Bansal

Secondly, their generousity solved a huge issue we have had for 4 years with our mobile coffee trucks generator. Accordingly, we have labeled both donated items in his honor. We have the “Mitchen oven” and the “Mitcherator”.

Mitchell forever be missed but the way that his parents continue to live their lives and support the disability community keeps his memory alive every single day.

There’s a side to running a nonprofit nobody really talks about.

The mental fatigue. The emotional roller coaster. The financial drain.

You pour everything you have into a mission you believe in. You make calculated decisions, manage expectations, and try not to expect the moon every time you shoot your shot.

But sometimes you shoot for the moon, don’t even land among the stars, and it’s DEVASTATING.

Add a mobile beverage business where Mother Nature determines your success. Thousands spent on permits, supplies, and preparation. Up before dawn, sweating, freezing, or soaking wet, only to walk away having LOST money.

And somehow, you’re expected to keep smiling. Because if you talk about the struggles, you’re whining. If you don’t, everyone assumes everything is wonderful.

Here’s what hurts the most.

I KNOW we’re changing lives. I SEE IT EVERY DAY. The confidence, independence, friendships, opportunities, and sense of belonging we’re creating are REAL.

Yet finding consistent corporate sponsorship and individual financial support feels nearly impossible, regardless of how much good we’re putting into the world.

We’re not trying to build an empire. We’re trying to pay the bills, keep the doors open, and continue doing meaningful work. And some days? I genuinely want to give up.

You can love something with your entire heart and still be completely exhausted by what it takes to sustain it.

I’m not looking for pity or applause. I just wish people understood that behind every smiling photo and feel-good story is someone wondering how they’re going to make it all work tomorrow.

I still believe in our mission. I still believe in our associates. I still believe in the Inclusion Revolution.

I just wish making a difference didn’t come at such an enormous personal cost.

And remember, when a small nonprofit asks for support, it doesn’t mean they’re failing.

Sometimes they’re incredibly successful at changing lives. They just can’t afford to keep doing it alone.

Sometimes perspective takes a couple of days to kick in.

We were incredibly honored to be invited as the beverage provider for the Autism Speaks 5K at the Philadelphia Navy Yard this past Sunday, which also happened to be Jake’s 26th birthday!

With over 4,500 people expected, we prepared for a HUGE day. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans. Freezing temperatures, pouring rain and barely a quarter of the anticipated crowd.

After spending THOUSANDS on permits, licensing, supplies, fuel and preparations, what we hoped would be a day of celebrating Jake, spreading our mission and providing some much-needed financial stability turned into a substantial financial loss.

And I won’t sugarcoat it. I cried the entire drive home. I screamed. I questioned God, the universe and whether I’m even on the right path. I threw myself one hell of a pity party.

But then I started looking through the pictures.

The families who braved that miserable weather were there because this cause MATTERS. The people we met were genuinely excited about Jake, his accomplishments and our mission. The organizers had the ENTIRE crowd singing Happy Birthday to him in the pouring rain. His friends Ammar and Heather from Kaleidoscope were there, and through it all, Jake was SMILING.

And there it was. PERSPECTIVE.

The financial loss still hurts. A LOT. When you’re running a small business and nonprofit, those losses aren’t just numbers on paper.

But a few days later, I’m choosing gratitude over disappointment.

Grateful we were invited. Grateful for the connections. Grateful for the families who showed up. And most importantly, grateful that my son spent his 26th birthday surrounded by people who understand why we do what we do.

Mother Nature may have rained on our parade, but she couldn’t wash away our WHY.

Sometimes the impact you make can’t be measured by the money your non profit generates.
