So... I may or may not have gotten a little carried away with the viral squishy trend.

And by a little carried away, I mean I apparently have absolutely no self-control when it comes to ordering ridiculously cute things for Mercantile.

Anyway, they're all stocked, they're adorable, and there are A LOT of them.

Like... an unreasonable amount.

So please come grab a coffee, buy yourself a squishy (or five), and help me feel better about my questionable business decisions.

Because at this point, I'm starting to question my life choices, and I'd really prefer to do that with fewer squishies staring back at me.

‘Tis the season... and apparently I've decided we don't have enough going on around here. If you thought we were going to slow down for the holidays, you clearly haven't met me. We've got SO MUCH coming up at Mercantile, and I've been sitting on a few ideas that I am about to burst keeping to myself.

First up, our Book Swap on October 17th, followed by Midnights & Mochas on October 23rd, and then Spooky Time on Main on October 31st!

November? We've got some fun trivia nights in the works, a few surprises, and plenty of reasons to get out of the house.

But December is where things are about to get REALLY fun. I've always been a sucker for those little towns in the old Christmas movies and romance novels. The ones with the twinkling lights, people singing Christmas carols, cozy coffee shops, and a whole lot of Christmas magic. And I've been thinking... why can't we have a little of that right here in Nicholasville?

So I'm working on something I'm calling 12 Days of Christmas at Mercantile. Twelve days. December 1st through the 12th. Twelve different experiences. I'm not giving away all the details just yet, but I will leave you with a few little hints...

A certain grumpy old man who isn't particularly fond of Christmas.

A little music that might make you feel like you've stepped into a Christmas movie.

Sugar plums, Christmas cookies, and maybe a little friendly competition.

A night for the girls who fall in love with fictional men.

A few ghosts who have absolutely no business showing up at Christmas.

Something straight out of an old-fashioned Christmas.

And a few surprises for our littlest Christmas lovers.

Some things will be free. Some will require tickets. Some will be for families, and some will be the perfect excuse to call your girlfriends and get out of the house.

I'm still putting the pieces together, but I can promise you one thing. I want this Christmas season to be about more than shopping and rushing from one thing to the next.

Hey Mercantile lovers!

Have you ever wanted your moment in the spotlight while showing a little love for your favorite local coffee shop? Well, here's your chance to be a celebrity for a day!

Our friends at Visit Jessamine are bringing a film crew to Mercantile this Friday around noon to get some footage for future social media reels featuring coffee shops in Jessamine County!

And we'd love to have some of our favorite customers and regulars be part of it!

So if you love Mercantile, don't mind being in front of a camera, and want your five seconds of fame, stop by, grab a coffee, and hang out with us!

No acting experience required. Just a love for coffee and maybe a willingness to pretend you don't see the camera.

It’s National Coffee Day, which means my feed is full of people asking where they can get free coffee, coffee deals, and it's full of reminders to support your local coffee shops.

And I always think that’s kind of funny, because those things don’t necessarily go together.

Small businesses don’t have giant corporate budgets to give things away just because it’s a national something-or-other day. Sometimes the best way to celebrate a small coffee shop is simply to support it.

When you buy a cup of coffee from a small local shop, that money usually goes right back into that business. Payroll. Supplies. Equipment. Repairs. Renovations. A new espresso machine when the old one has finally had enough of us. There is ALWAYS something.

And I’m not saying any of that to complain. I love this little place. Mercantile has grown and changed so much since we opened in 2019, and a huge part of that is because people have continued to walk through our doors and spend their money here.

So no big freebie from me for National Coffee Day.

Instead, I just want to say thank you.

Thank you for buying the coffee. Thank you for choosing a little locally owned shop when you could go anywhere. Thank you for coming back. Thank you for bringing your friends, telling people about us, and making us part of your routine.

Because sometimes supporting local really is that simple.

Tickets for A Night of Midnights & Mochas are officially on sale!

Join us Friday, October 23rd from 6:30–9ish PM for a cozy, witchy ladies night at Mercantile. Think Beetlejuice, tarot, witch bell wreaths, a grazing table, coffee, costumes, shopping, a little pampering and a night out with your girlfriends. 🌙

🎟️ Tickets are $15 and include the grazing table, tarot, crafts, movie and more! We’ll also have some fun extras available that night for an additional cost.

SPACE IS LIMITED, so if you’re planning to come, make sure you snag your ticket before we fill up!

Costumes are encouraged but definitely not required. Come witchy, come spooky, come straight from work. We don’t care. 😂

We’re turning Mercantile into a cozy, witchy ladies night with Beetlejuice playing, snacks, crafts, tarot and plenty of time to hang out, shop, get pampered and enjoy a night out with friends.

🎟️ Tickets are $15 and will go on sale THIS FRIDAY!

Your ticket includes: 🔮 Tarot reading
🧙 Witch bell wreath craft

🎬 Beetlejuice
✨ A few other little surprises we’re working on

We’ll also have some fun extras available throughout the night for an additional cost, including henna, mini massages, Chanel beauty products, and whatever else we manage to dream up between now and then.

☕ Mercantile’s coffee bar will be open during the event, so lattes, seasonal drinks and other beverages will be available to purchase separately.

And YES, costumes are encouraged. You absolutely do not have to dress up, but if you’ve been waiting for an excuse to wear something witchy in public without anyone asking questions... here it is.

📚 BOOK SWAP AT MERCANTILE!

Saturday, October 17 | Starting at 3:30 PM

We're bringing back our Book Swap, and this time we're keeping everything right here at Mercantile Coffee & Feed!

We learned a few things from our last swap, so here's how this one will work.

Mercantile will close at 3 PM for regular business so we can take 30 minutes to rearrange the shop and set up our swap tables.

Here's how the swap will work:

📖 Starting at 3:30 PM, we'll begin accepting books. Our volunteers will check your books and give you one ticket for each book accepted.

📖 Once everyone has checked in, we'll take a few minutes to organize all the books on the tables. We'll ask everyone to step out of the swap area while we get everything ready.

📖 Once the tables are set, we'll welcome everyone back in to browse! Use your tickets to pick out your next great reads. One ticket = one book.

A few guidelines from our last swap:

We want this to feel like a fun trade between book lovers, not a drop-off for books headed to Goodwill.

Please bring books in good condition that you'd be excited to recommend or receive yourself. Think great novels, recent nonfiction, or beloved favorites.

Please skip: • Heavily worn or damaged books

• Textbooks or outdated manuals

• Old reference books

• Anything you wouldn't personally be excited to pick up

All books will be checked for condition and desirability at check-in. If a book isn't accepted, no hard feelings!

Please do not drop books off with Mercantile staff during regular business hours. Books will only be accepted during our designated swap check-in.

No outside food or drinks, please.

Whether you're clearing a little space on your bookshelf or looking for your next can't-put-it-down read, come spend the afternoon with us!

We’re back to our normal Saturday hours this weekend!

Mercantile will be open 8:30 AM–3 PM, and we’ve invited a few small businesses to set up shop in the back with us!

These ladies have some fall and Halloween inventory they’re hoping to move, and we would LOVE to see them head home with a whole lot less than they came with. So while you’re grabbing your coffee or breakfast, make sure you wander to the back and do a little shopping!
