Good morning, and welcome to this week's Sunday Recap!
And what a week it was!
We had a very special birthday, an anniversary present (yes, I will gladly bake for your anniversary!), and lots of just because orders! That included a TON of apple c***r donuts going out this week, and I couldn't have been happier about that. I absolutely love making those! I will say that of everything I bake, my house smells the absolute best when I'm making either angel food cake or apple c***r donuts. There is just something about those smells that makes me so happy!
And then, of course, we had an absolutely AMAZING cart yesterday! So many of you came out and braved the cold to shop my cart, and I seriously could not be more grateful. Some of you even came back more than once, and that meant the absolute world to me. You guys are truly amazing, and I appreciate you more than I could ever express!
I know I'm a little behind on social media, and I promise I'll catch up over the next couple of days. I honestly needed a little time to recharge last night, and today we're celebrating my dad's birthday!
Speaking of my dad, yesterday was actually his birthday! Several of the items I made for the cart were chosen specifically because they're some of his absolute favorites. And, of course, he came by, so I got to see him on his special day! My dad is one of my biggest supporters. The pride he has in me and the work I do is a constant source of encouragement. I love that man so incredibly much. In my opinion, he's the absolute best dad out there, and I'm so excited to spend some time celebrating him today!
My husband and I also enjoyed an amazing date night last night at Soul on Main here in Nicholasville! Guys, I cannot say enough wonderful things about this restaurant. I have genuinely never had a bad meal there. Their food is absolutely fantastic, and we are so fortunate to have such an incredible establishment right here in Nicholasville. I know I've featured them in a small business spotlight before, and I will happily continue to sing their praises because their food makes me ridiculously happy! We thoroughly enjoyed our evening together!
As you can probably imagine, I didn't have a whole lot of free time this week, but I did manage to squeeze in a little experimenting in the kitchen! I tried a pumpkin crunch cake with homemade whipped cream, and goodness gracious, it was SO good! We are also officially in soup season, although personally, I could happily eat soup all year long. I've been trying new soup recipes right and left and discovering some new favorites, including a creamy chicken vegetable soup I made this week. It was absolutely delicious!
Now, I want to bring your attention back to my series highlighting our incredible local bakers!
This week, I want to shine a spotlight on an incredibly talented baker, an amazing baking sister, and an all around wonderful person, Peyton Gibson of Simply Sweet
Guys, her talent absolutely astounds me on a regular basis. The cakes she creates are nothing short of incredible, and the pictures I'm sharing are just a couple of examples of her amazing work!
And just to clarify, these pictures are of HER work, not mine! My talents lie elsewhere, and decorating cakes is definitely not one of them!
I absolutely LOVE referring people to Peyton for their cake needs because, as you can clearly see, her work is impeccable. But beyond her incredible talent, she's also just an absolute sweetheart who goes out of her way to support other small businesses.
I cannot tell you how many times I've been having a rough day, and suddenly her name pops up recommending me to someone looking for cake pops or other treats. Those little acts of kindness mean more than she probably realizes. She is genuinely such an encouraging and supportive person, and I think the world of her!
I hear so many wonderful things about her cakes, and I've personally had several of her other treats, including her strawberry cheesecake cones. Oh my goodness, those things are PHENOMENAL! Seriously, so incredibly good!
And chances are, many of you already know exactly who I'm talking about! Whenever someone in our community asks for cake recommendations, Peyton's name comes up over and over again. That speaks volumes about the reputation she's built and the incredible work she does. She has helped make so many birthdays, weddings, and other special occasions even more memorable with her beautiful creations.
As I've said before, having such an incredible community of baking sisters here in Nicholasville is something I am so grateful for. There is so much talent in our community, and I love having the opportunity to celebrate it!
Peyton, you are so incredibly talented, and I am genuinely blessed and honored to bake alongside you here in Nicholasville. Thank you for being such a wonderful person, for supporting your fellow bakers, and for sharing your amazing gifts with our community!

I'm looking forward to a wonderful week ahead! We have several celebrations coming up that I'm excited to share more about later, and of course, we're getting ready to jump right into all things Halloween!
