Scotland fans drink Boston dry as local bars run out of beer!

Scotland’s “Tartan Army” — thousands of passionate fans — descended on Boston, which is hosting some of Scotland’s group-stage matches. The result? Local bars and breweries literally ran out of beer due to the massive surge in demand.
Key DetailsBoston Beer Co. (Sam Adams): Their Boston Taproom sold four times the normal volume over a four-day period (Thursday–Sunday), comparable to peak holiday weekends like the Fourth of July. They ran out of flagship Boston Lager, scheduled an emergency delivery Saturday morning, and added extra shipments this week. Staff reportedly picked up 70 empty kegs on Monday.

Other bars reported similar chaos: One place ran out of 20 of 24 draft beers; another tripled its St. Patrick’s Day numbers and went dry by Sunday night. Owners said they’d “never seen anything like it.”
Fans have been marching with bagpipes, packing venues, and generally winning over locals with their energy (and thirst).

The story has blown up on social media, with videos of empty taps and quotes like: “There was no beer. The Scots drank the place dry. We ran out of pretty much everything.”
It’s classic Tartan Army behavior — they’re known worldwide for traveling in huge numbers and enjoying themselves to the fullest. Boston seems to be embracing it, though some spots are now stocking up with extra fridges ahead of more matches (including Scotland vs. Morocco).

Scotland’s “Tartan Army” is the nickname for the passionate supporters of the Scotland national football team, known for bringing large numbers of fans to international matches and for the distinctive tartan clothing and flags that create a highly visible, party-like atmosphere.
