My parents opened Mi Pequeño México in Newark, NJ, in December 2000. Here’s my dad telling our story.

Our family is Mixteco, from the Mixteca region of Puebla. From the masa we make by hand to our tamales, huaraches, and salsa de guaje, those roots are part of what we serve.

After losing my mom during the pandemic, my dad kept going. This Mexican restaurant holds our family’s history, and we’re still adding to it.
