Antonio Veniero was from from a little town in Italy called "Vico Equense". He was 15 years old when he came to NY and worked in a candy factory downtown. In three years they made him a manager and in six years after that he opened his on shop here at 342 East 11th Street. It was originally called Antonio Veniero Confections. He had an adjacent billiard parlor next door and also owned a Saloon acr

oss the street on 1st avenue. If you bought a beer (for a nickel) you got a free lunch! Near the turn of the century the word got out in Italy that if you needed a good baking job go to 342 East 11th street in NYC (Manhattan) and ask for Antonio Veniero. Back in those days Antonio was adamant on only buying the most expensive ingredients. Example: He would buy Valencia almonds instead of California almonds since the Valencia Almonds from Spain were thinner and sweeter rather than bitter ones from California. Always the choice hand picked ingredients (Higher standards). We also won many awards in 1925 (from Rome, Italy), 1933 (Bologna, Italy) and 1939 (NYC). We were shown on newsreels throughout the country back in the day explaining about a congratulatory letter from FDR/ and Secretary of War from a Carved cake made out of Gumpaste that depicted The National Recovery Act which won honors at the NY Exposition Hotel (1933). We shipped our famous biscuits in WWII to the troops overseas. We also made Frank Sinatra's wedding cake, Liza Minnelli's Birthday cakes and Joe Dimaggio was also a customer of ours. Many current celebrities and politicians have been through the doors of the pastry shop/ Cafe (same location since 1894). At 95 years old, the legendary Dominic Chianese from The Sopranos is still making the best calls in New York. ☕️🇮🇹

On his way through the city, Dominic turned to his friend and fellow musician John, who was driving, and said, “Don’t make a right. Make a left. I want to go to Veniero’s.” 🤌

We’re certainly glad they did.

The two friends spent the evening enjoying cappuccinos, sfogliatella, music, and plenty of laughter in the café.

For a few hours, the café felt like a little piece of old New York, filled with great music, good company, and stories worth sharing.

Watching Dominic and John jam together in our café was one of those special New York moments that reminds us why we love what we do. ❤️🍰

Today we lovingly remember Pasquilina, beloved wife of Antonio Veniero, on what would have been her birthday.

Long before Veniero’s Pasticceria & Caffé became one of New York’s most treasured pastry shops, Pasquilina was there helping shape its story, even working the cash register in the early part of the 20th century alongside Antonio Veniero himself.

Her spirit lives on through the traditions, family, and generations of love that continue to define Veniero’s to this day.

Happy Heavenly Birthday, Pasquilina. Your memory continues to be cherished always. ❤️

Some Saturdays are made for sleeping in.
Others are made for strawberry millefoglie, a fork-first dive into shortcake, and standing at the pastry counter saying, “we’ll take one of each.”

Three bakers, one mission… strawberry shortcake perfection! 🍓

At this station, it’s all hands on deck. sponge getting its soak, clouds of cream tucked in just right, fresh strawberries layered like they mean it, and that final swirl of icing piped on top like a signature.
