Sunday Session!

This Sunday at Plowshares: Rico Jones Quartet

Join us this Sunday at 2 PM as we welcome Tenor Saxophonist Rico Jones to the Plowshares stage! Rico will be joined by some familiar faces from prior Sunday Sessions. Jam Session to follow first set!

Rico Jones - Saxophone
Rico Jones is a visionary saxophonist, composer, and bandleader whose debut album BloodLines (Giant Step Arts, 2025) has firmly established him as a rising force in modern jazz. Awarded ★★★★ by DownBeat Magazine and named to their prestigious Best Albums of 2025 list, BloodLines places Jones in the company of icons and contemporaries alike, including Andrew Hill, Horace Silver, Pharoah Sanders, Benny Golson, Chick Corea and B.B. King, as well as Christian McBride, Ambrose Akinmusire, Brad Mehldau, Brian Blade and Johnathan Blake. Critic Howard Mandel wrote, “Jones and company seek meaning if not transcendence in improvising music… Jones joins Immanuel Wilkins and Joel Ross as current leaders with roots in the Black church, famously a source for Coltrane and many others.”

William Hill III — Piano
Detroit-born pianist, composer, arranger, and bandleader William Hill III brings a deep command of bebop, hard bop, blues, gospel, R&B, and funk-inflected jazz. An award-winning musician with performances at venues including Dizzy’s Club, Smalls, Mezzrow, The Kennedy Center, and the Detroit Jazz Festival, Hill’s playing is rooted, expressive, and full of momentum.

Anthony Golden — Bass
Anthony Golden is a Double Bassist, Composer, and Arranger from Denver, CO currently living in NYC. His playing is raw, supportive, hardcore, and spans the whole range of human emotion. His musical taste is heavily influenced by Black American Music, creative improvised music, and American counterculture. In addition to performing at high profile historic venues such as Smalls Jazz Club, Cafe Bohemia, Minton's Playhouse, & the Newport Jazz Festival, Golden has logged extensive time performing on the NYC streets and subway platforms. This combination of influences and experiences have culminated in a sound designed to command one’s attention, then overpower the listener with love.

Jerome Gillespie Jr. — Drums
Jerome Gillespie Jr. is a jazz drummer, composer, and bandleader based in New York City who grew up in Houston, Texas. A graduate of Manhattan School of Music, University of Iowa, and The Juilliard School, Gillespie blends church traditions, hard bop fire, and modern storytelling in his deeply rooted yet forward-moving sound. THE PEPERONCINO JAZZ FESTIVAL is an itinerant musical fair that for 25 years has been uniting countless local municipalities in the Italian region of Calabria, strengthening the ties between local identity, culture and sustainable tourism. Benny Benack III
Emmy-nominated Trumpeter and Vocalist Benny Benack III (BBIII) has quickly become a leading voice in Jazz for his generation, headlining clubs and festivals around the world on the heels of his latest critically acclaimed live album “This Is The Life,” which has been garnering thousands of streams and topping the JazzWeek Radio Charts. He is the rare talent who is formidable as a fiery trumpeter -- ranging from Freddie Hubbard to Louis Armstrong and everyone in between -- while as a singer he delivers sly, mature, naturally expressive post-Sinatra vocal stylings.

Let's welcome Benny back home from extensive touring as part of the Jazz at Lincoln Center: Great American Crooners Tour and his just finished European tour!
