Pineapple Glazed Easter Ham Steaks
They cook in under 20 minutes, leaving you plenty of time for other dishes. Served with the reduced glaze and fresh pineapple rings, this dish is a colorful, tropical twist on tradition that’s perfect for smaller gatherings or when you want a main course that’s unexpectedly easy.
Ingredients:
2 (1-inch thick) bone-in ham steaks (about 2 lbs total)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 cup pineapple juice
1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
4 fresh pineapple rings (optional, for serving)
Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish
Steps:
Step 1: Pat the ham steaks dry with a paper towel. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, carefully add the ham steaks. Let them sear undisturbed for 3-4 minutes, until a beautiful golden-brown crust forms on the bottom.
Step 2: While the ham sears, make the glaze. In a small bowl or measuring cup, whisk together the pineapple juice, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, and ground ginger until the sugar begins to dissolve.
Step 3: Flip the ham steaks. They should release easily from the pan if a good crust has formed. Immediately pour the pineapple glaze mixture into the skillet around the ham. It will bubble and steam vigorously. Reduce the heat to medium-low to maintain a steady simmer.
Step 4: Let the ham simmer in the glaze for about 8-10 minutes, basting the tops frequently with a spoon. The glaze will reduce by about half, becoming thick, syrupy, and glossy. If using, add the fresh pineapple rings to the skillet for the last 3-4 minutes to warm them through.
Step 5: Transfer the ham steaks and pineapple rings (if using) to a serving platter. Continue simmering the glaze for another minute or two if it needs to thicken further. Pour the warm, reduced glaze over the ham. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley for a pop of color and freshness. Serve immediately.
