Snow in Kyoto!

Last weekend the Ippodo Kyoto Main Store and headquarters saw a rare heavy snowfall. Neighborhood shrines and temples felt beautiful and serene, and the pace of the city felt a bit slower than usual. Though if you happened to be there, the many train delays made getting around tricky!

The snow has since melted and citizens are back to their usual routines.

If you make the trip to Kyoto, keep an eye out for the signs of the seasons both subtle and dramatic- from flowers blooming quietly, to sudden changes in the weather.

Matcha cortado inspiration-

Try a latte with half matcha & half milk of choice, for a stronger matcha taste.

As tea specialists, we often prefer recipes where the richness of the matcha really shines.

Do you like a matcha latte where the matcha flavor is strong, or more subtle?

An cozy break with a cream filled cookie and a cup of sencha

The cookie had this decadent, crisp texture and a sweet hazelnut filling with just the right amount of creaminess. We paired it with the Shoike sencha blend, which has a nice fresh bitterness that complimented the sweetness well.

While coffee, hot chocolate, and matcha are also options, we find sencha also pairs beautifully with all sorts of holiday cookies and treats this time of year. Give it a try!

New Year's Matcha 2025 is here! For the year of the snake release, the name of the blend is Mi-no-mukashi- "Mi" means snake in Japanese.

Each year we release this special blend during the holiday season. Even on the gloomiest winter day, enjoying this matcha leaves us feeling fully refreshed and invigorated, ready to stride into the new year.

Enjoy the lush, round taste unique to this year’s release by trying it prepared straight, just with water. For latte fans, feel free to add milk of choice. Prepared with milk, it’s an incredibly smooth, round, and unobtrusive blend.

Matcha, without the foam?Try whisking your next bowl of matcha very slowly, just until it's thoroughly mixed. You'll be rewarded with a deep, elixir-like matcha without any foam to soften its edges.

This method is the favorite of some matcha fans, since a foam-free allows them to enjoy each blend's more subtle nuances.

Read more about matcha foam, from our blog, "How to Make Foamy, Creamy Matcha" on our website in the bio.
