The early lore of Wakin' Bakin' starts as a teeny pilot project!

Circa 2010, The Olive Branch Cafe had a Midcity location in the American Can Co. apartment building that they sublet to us on weekend mornings for $50/day, paid to the key-holding manager who would drag himself in to open the kitchen for us. Thanks, Silva!

Rusty & The Old Man must've thought we were crazy (๐ŸŽฏ) but supportive none-the-less! We've always been thankful to them for giving us the opportunity to try, and are thankful to remain friends with our mentor

I'll go first!
When we first moved in from our sublet bar kitchen, we tried to remain delivery only. We didn't have any dining room furniture or place settings, nor money to buy them. ๐Ÿ™ƒ Y'all were NOT HAVING IT

๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿคโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿฝโ€๐Ÿฆฝโ€โžก๏ธ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿพโ€๐Ÿฐโ€๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธWe'd updated our address on Facebook & people started showing up. Like, a lot. ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝโ€๐Ÿฆฏ๐Ÿ‘ฌ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I'm sure some cared, but most did not- y'all ordered food to go and ate anywhere... Over the ice chest in our only chair, criss-cross applesauce on the floor, at Banks St bar, or on the porch at CS&P next door in the mornings before they would open.

๐Ÿฅฐ Y'all embraced us in such a way we could've never imagined. We were enabled to grow within our means, support the families that worked it, and be fortunate to spend more than a decade feeding our neighbors ๐Ÿซถ

๐ŸšชJuly 15th will be our final day of service at 4408 Banks St. We'd love to have you in to dine one last time before we close the door on this chapter of Wakin' Bakin' โœŒ๐Ÿผ
