Come check out our award winning BBQ in our spacious restaurant with seating for over 200 inside and 100 outside. Central City BBQ in New Orleans was built by relationships that stem from Chef Aaron Burgau, Chef and Owner of Restaurant Patois. Aaron has been involved in the restaurant business in some form or fashion since he was fourteen years old. He has been fortunate enough to have worked with some of the elite chefs of New Orleans. Aaron and Jesuit High School classmate, Marc Bonifacic, have talked off and on about doing something together in the restaurant business since the late 90s. That is when Aaron would prepare meals for a large contingent of high school friends on a regular basis as he was working his way up through the ranks in the restaurant world. They had talked about different types of restaurants and locations for almost 20 years before 1201 South Rampart became the spot. Where there’s smoke…there’s Central City BBQ. In 2016, Aaron, Marc, and partners restored a building in historic “Central City” New Orleans, combining their passion for smoke, fire, and whole hog barbecue.

Most sweet BBQ sauce picks one sweetener. Ours uses three. Brown sugar for the caramel, molasses for the dark edge underneath it, honey for the top. Then vinegar and yellow mustard to cut all of it, so it finishes sharp instead of sticky. Made in house, by the kettle, every week. 1201 S. Rampart. Which meat does the sweet sauce belong on?

Kickoff is 7:15. Eat before you head to the Dome.

The wings get smoked first and then flash fried the second you order them, which is the only reason the skin comes out like that. Half dozen or dozen.

It is Monday, so the red beans are on too - red beans and rice with the smoked sausage cooked into the beans, a leg quarter or rib tips, sweet corn spoonbread on the side.

Lots of off-street parking. Happy hour at the bar runs 3 to 6. Kitchen closes at 7.

Monday means red beans, and the plate is three things: red beans and rice with smoked sausage cooked into the pot, a leg quarter or rib tips off the pit, and sweet corn spoonbread. Mondays only, till it's empty. 1201 S. Rampart.

Our other bar takes the ferry. That's Beau, one of the Tap Truck NOLA panel trucks, crossing the river to pour at somebody's event - same family as the pit, and it goes wherever the party is. Weddings, offices, driveways. Booking through the same desk as our catering: [email protected] or (504) 427-4335, ask for Catie Beth.

Kel is a Google Local Guide with 586 reviews behind him. He walked over from his hotel for happy hour and worked through half the starter menu: pulled pork nachos, Sweet Corn Nuggets, Smoked Rib Tips, smoked wings and Chicken Thigh Cracklin'. His verdict - good tap list, excellent bartender, portions very generous. Happy hour is Monday through Friday, 3 to 6. Open 11 to 9 today, beef ribs till they're gone. 1201 S. Rampart.

Two screens the size of a garage door, and every table faces them. This is the Pit Room at Central City BBQ on a game night. It starts as a plain poblano. Swipe: the pepper gets charred over an open flame until the skin blisters, then split and stuffed with 8 oz of the filling of our smoked brisket mix - chopped smoked brisket, pepper jack, red and green onion, our house spice blend - buried in cheddar, and baked in cast iron until it melts down. Last stop is the cilantro lime jalapeno crema. It's our October special, $22, every day through Halloween. Open 11 to 9. 1201 S. Rampart.

Last day for the hot sausage patty sandwich - it's gone when we close at 7 tonight. This is what takes its spot tomorrow. A poblano charred over an open flame, stuffed with smoked brisket and pepper jack mix, covered in cheddar, baked in cast iron and finished with cilantro lime jalapeno crema. The Stuffed Smoked Brisket Poblano, $22, October only, starting Thursday. 1201 S. Rampart.
