It seems like just yesterday I had heard the news that a small space was for sale in New Brunswick.
At the time, 43-year-old me was equal parts eager and terrified to take a lookâbecause I knew that it was never really going to be just taking a look.
Taking that first step meant a new beginning . And when something as enormous as opening your own business begins, that train leaves the station quickly, and you have no idea where it is headed or whether you packed enough money, patients or sanity for the trip. But you do know youâre in for a long journey.
At that point, either drive the train or hold on for dear life and hope it doesnât derail.
But I was never driving alone.
My family immediately jumped on board: my wife,Tammi and children; my brother, Robert, and my soon-to-be sister-in-law, Galina; and two close family friends and partners, Alpesh and Yushesh.
And dare I leave out the CHEFS I have the opportunity to work with every day, you too are my family.
Soon after, my oldest daughter, Caila, became an active part of all the âboring stuffââwhich, as it turns out, is actually the incredibly important stuff that keeps a business alive. And Taylor, who has continued to make Salt look amazing every single day.
The truth is, there are so many others who helped us along the way that naming everyone would turn this into a novelâand nobody came here prepared to read War and Peace: The Seafood Edition.
Over these past eight years, Iâve had the privilege of meeting some truly incredible people: employees who became family, loyal guests that became friendâs , old & new acquaintances, and countless people who have left their fingerprints on Salt in one way or another.
Every one of you has been part of this journey.
From opening our doors in 2018, through the uncertainty and heartbreak of 2020, and all the way to where we stand today in 2026âwe are still here. Not because the road was easy, but because so many people believed in us, supported us, worked beside us, and continued walking through our doors.
To every guest who has ever stepped inside Salt: thank you.
Thank you for trusting us with your anniversaries, birthdays, first dates, family dinners, celebrations, and even the ordinary Tuesday nights that sometimes become the memories we hold onto the longest.
A restaurant is given a rare privilege. For an hour and a halfâgive or takeâwe are invited into your lives. We get to feed you, take care of you, celebrate with you, and hopefully give you a moment worth remembering. That is something I have never taken lightly.
Today, it is no longer mine alone.
It belongs to every person who helped build it, every employee who gave it their heart, every family member who sacrificed for it, and every guest who allowed us to become a small part of their story.
I finally understand: the destination was never an ending point itâs all about the ride
From the deepest place in my heart, thank you for these unforgettable eight years.
without you, there would be no Salt.
