San Lazaro Coffee www.sanlazarocoffee.com It is certainly helping, but the fact of the matter is, it is not yet enough.

Did you know?

-Many coffee farmers are forced to sell their crops to middlemen at less than the cost of production, forcing them into debt and a cycle of poverty.

-Fair Trade coffee alone may not be an adequate solution.

-From our experience and many others, the fair trade wage is simply not enough to put children through school, to provide enough food for families, or to provide farmers with a reasonable quality of life. The San Lazaro Commitment:
-To pay employees 25% more than local fair wages and provide specialty medical care.

-To treat our employees with dignity, respect, and love through personal relationships to ensure that each individual is given the opportunity to thrive, not merely survive.

-To use 100% of our profits to support the Mission Lazarus Refuge children’s home.

-To use organic methods to produce our coffee

-To cut out the middle-man and act as a single sourced-coffee to guarantee fair wages for our employees.

-To bring you a cup of coffee that has consistently scored as a “specialty coffee.”

On the farm, proper water management practices are a big deal.

That's why 100% of all water used on the farm is harvested directly from the mountain, stored in above-ground tanks and underground collection systems connected by pipe.

Sustainable practices like these are always top of mind as we attempt to steward the land well. Here Sonia is filling the tanks with rainwater and cleaning them out. To learn more about why we think this is important, check out the "Regenerative Farming" page at sanlazarocoffee.com.

Ada Gloria Tercero is a 59-year-old homemaker and coffee producer who has sold her harvest to San Lázaro since 2021. Ada Gloria’s farm is small, but eight people in her family depend on it. Every season, she faithfully delivers her entire harvest. Now, for the first time, she has the ability to process coffee on her own property and create more value from what her land already produces.

Our team begins each workday with a time of devotion and worship.

One of our favorite parts of this is seeing different women step up to lead, opening God’s Word and sharing what they’re learning with one another. It’s a simple part of the day, but a meaningful picture of what it looks like to care for the whole person.

Thank you for doing your part to support moments like this when you shop at sanlazarocoffee.com. We are so grateful for you!

A coffee plant. A steady, well-paying job. A team to belong to. Friends who encourage one another. An opportunity to learn and grow. A life changed.

Because of your coffee purchases, we get to watch that kind of growth happen every day. Thank you for being part of this unfolding story.

Darwin Alberto Gómez is 38-year-old coffee farmer who supports seven members of his family with his small farm. Darwin grows several varieties of coffee, including a small plot of Geisha, a specialty variety that can command a much higher price when it is processed well.

Until this summer, he had no way to process this variety of coffee separately, so his Geisha was sold for the same price as any other coffee cherry. But with the installation of a new drying patio, he finally has the opportunity to process that coffee differently and receive a price that better reflects its quality.

When women are given the opportunity to thrive, the impact reaches far beyond the individual person and into their families and communities. Through dignified work, a thriveable wage, and continued learning and growth, the coffee farm has become a place where our farmers can recognize their potential.

Thank you for being part of our coffee community. Your purchases create real, lasting transformation!

Today is International Equal Pay Day, a day set aside by the United Nations to highlight the global gender pay gap and promote equal pay for work of equal value.

We are proud of our team of women farmers. Our farmers receive compensation above local averages, providing dignity and stability, while raising the bar for gender equity in agriculture.
