Meet the baker! 💗
Hi everyone! I’m April, the face behind April’s Dipped Delights!
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, along with two published theses. Growing up, I always imagined myself in a career where I could help people. For a long time, I thought that would be through criminal justice, whether as a behavioral analyst, which is where the psychology degree came in, or even as a criminal defense attorney.
During the last semester of my bachelor’s degree, I interned at a law office and absolutely loved it. After graduating, I decided to continue on to my master’s degree with a doctorate still in the back of my mind.
And funny enough, this business originally started as a way to help fund my education.
April’s Dipped Delights started with chocolate-covered strawberries. That’s it! And trust me, even those came with plenty of trial and error. 😂 From there, I slowly started adding other dipped treats, and eventually I threw myself headfirst into cakes.
The rest is history.
Creating has always been a huge part of who I am. Ever since I was little, I’ve loved sketching, drawing, making things, and bringing ideas to life. My family and friends have probably received more handmade gifts from me than store-bought ones because I’ve always believed there is something incredibly special about creating something specifically for someone you love.
When I’m not in my kitchen, you can usually find me soaking up some sunshine, drinking coffee, loving on animals, exploring somewhere new, or finding something fun to do with the people I love.
And when I tell y’all I love my job, I truly mean it. It is stressful. The hours are LONG. The days somehow never feel long enough. 😂 But I absolutely love being able to create something that becomes part of your birthdays, baby showers, weddings, anniversaries, celebrations, and milestones.
More than anything, what I love about this business is the opportunity it gives me to give back.
Giveaways, little freebies, helping families when I can, and organizations like Icing Smiles are all incredibly important to me. I’ve always wanted whatever I did with my life to involve serving others in some way, and it’s pretty amazing that this little business I started to help pay for school has given me another way to do exactly that.
At the end of the day, I want both my legacy and my business to reflect a few things: kindness, professionalism, gratitude, creativity, and a willingness to serve others.
And above everything else, I give all of the glory to God. I feel incredibly blessed to have the support system I do, the talent and work ethic I’ve been given, and so many amazing customers who continue to trust me with such special moments in their lives.
So, that’s a little piece of my story! If there’s anything else y’all would ever like to know about me or the business, I’m pretty much an open book and always happy to share. 💗
