Last year was our first year at ribfest in grand haven. We showed up and were not prepared for the chaos that followed. We were out of our element, we were pushed to our limits, we were overwhelmed, we didn't place in the top 3 of any of the four categories. Exhausted and disappointed, we thanked our team for all their hard work and all their efforts and told them next year would be different. We set a goal right then, we would take a people's choice award in 2026. Over the course of that summer countless conversations were had about this side and that meal, what could we do that nobody else is doing. We did an event in August and made a handful of these BBQ masterpieces called armadillo eggs, they flew off the shelf. After that we knew that was our item. They are alot of work. 4 layers from the stuffing to the outer bacon. No shortcuts on how to prep them, just time.The hard work, the coring, stuffing,wrapping, wrapping again, repeating 500 times. It all paid off. We hammered our goal. People's choice best side, WE DID IT! Then, judges choice best side goes to smokin' guns.....holy s**t, we really did it!
This year we were a different team. Not only Skeeter and Louis, but those that we surrounded ourselves with, our families, OUR TEAM. They are the heros of this story. Without them we couldn't do what we do. They fill in the gaps, they make the foundation strong, everyone of them picked up their games and did what was needed, not for any reason other than to set us up for success. They did it. We succeeded. From the bottom of my heart I thank you!
To everyone that came to support us and vote for us, thank you! Your votes are appreciated. To the other competitors, thank you for your support, you all celebrated us as friends, it was a great feeling. We cannot wait for next year to see everyone again, and see what awaits us in the future.
