We’re back, and we finally had time to give our newest flavors the photo shoot they deserve! Here are three delicious reasons to stop by Small Town Scoop & Eatery:

Pineapple Upside Down Cake
This seasonal favorite from Cedar Crest Ice Cream only comes around once a year! Pineapple-flavored ice cream is loaded with pineapple pieces, chunks of cake, and rich brown butter swirls. It tastes just like the classic dessert in a scoop!

Spiced Chai Cookie
Made by us right here in Murphysboro, and honestly, this may be our favorite flavor we have created so far! Chai-spiced ice cream is packed with Biscoff cookie pieces and finished with a generous Biscoff cookie butter swirl.

Island Mango Sorbet
Also made right here in our shop! This refreshing sorbet is bursting with sweet, juicy mango, a hint of sea salt, and a sprinkle of Tajín® Clásico Seasoning for the perfect sweet, salty, tangy, and gently spicy finish.

Want a little more heat in your sorbet? Just ask, and we’ll add extra Tajín® so you can spice it to your heart’s content!

And remember, we’re more than just ice cream. Stop in for a meal, then finish it off with one of these new flavors for dessert!

Which one are you trying first? Come try one of these, or any of our 33 flavors of ice cream, at 1400 Walnut Street in Murphysboro. We’re open seven days a week!

We are so sorry for the inconvenience and truly appreciate your understanding. We’ll be ready to welcome you this afternoon with delicious food, homemade ice cream, and plenty of smiles.

We are open! Everything has been repaired, cleaned up, and dried out.

A little fun history about our building...

Our building was built in 1888 by James "Daddy" Turner and originally housed the Apollo Opera House upstairs. It was the first brick building west of 14th Street (then called N. Logan). In 1923, Gus Huthmacher modernized the building with a new façade designed by R.Z. Gill. Rather than removing the original façade, they simply built the new one over it, leaving a space between the two. As it turns out, that's exactly where our problem started.

Over the decades, various signs and fixtures were attached to the front of the building using large lead anchors. Installing them required drilling 1-inch holes completely through the newer façade. As signs came and went, many of those anchors—and the holes around them—were simply left in place.

Pro tip: If you ever remove something from a brick building, don't leave the anchor, or the holes, behind!

Those 100+ holes created a pathway for rainwater to flow directly into the space between the two façades. Yesterday's storm hit the building at just the right angle, allowing a surprising amount of water inside. The water collected behind the façade until it caused the original tin ceiling (which still sits above our drop ceiling) to buckle, resulting in an indoor rainstorm in the shop.
Maybe you saw Jonathan on a lift yesterday sealing all of those holes across the front of the building. As soon as we discovered the source of the leak, we knew it had to be fixed right away. We love this little shop and this beautiful old building, and we want to take good care of both so they'll be here for many years to come.
So, to everyone who stopped by yesterday hoping for some yumminess, thank you for your patience—and we're sorry we missed you. The repairs are complete, everything is back together, and we're ready to serve you again!

Thank you, as always, for your support. We can't wait to see you soon!

Hi Friends!

Well... that was a little more rain than we ordered!

Mother Nature decided to send us an unexpected indoor water feature this afternoon, and unfortunately our little shop ended up with some water damage. The good news is everything will be fine, the bad news is...Small Town Scoop & Eatery is getting a spa day we definitely didn't schedule.

To give everything time to dry out and make the necessary repairs, we'll be closing immediately and will remain closed on Thursday.

Our plan is to reopen Friday, July 17, at 11:00 AM, ready to serve up your favorite lunches, treats, dirty sodas, Lotus drinks, and of course...LOTS of ice cream!

We're so sorry for the inconvenience, but we promise we'll be back before you know it.

Thank you for always supporting our little family-owned shop. We truly have the best customers around, and we can't wait to welcome you back on Friday.

See you Friday!
