In honor of our best buddy, Merlin, the Mountain Town Station coonhound, who crossed the rainbow bridge in July of 2024, we will be once again hosting Merlin's Day - a FREE dog friendly picnic in our beautiful garden with donations going directly to the Humane Animal Treatment Society (HATS) of Isabella County.

On Saturday, June 27th th from 11am-1pm, we will be having free hot dogs for the humans, pupcups for the pups, doggie goodies from PetSmart of Mt. Pleasant & Magoo's Pet Outlet, free nail trims (courtesy of Northwoods Pet Care Center), pet photos (courtesy of Emily Rose Photography) and information from Mitten State Dog Training & Boarding.

Cash bar will be available outdoors for those interested.

In addition, HATS will be in attendance with information about adoptable dogs to showcase in honor of Merlin, who was adopted himself from HATS.

Again, this is a FREE event, any donations will go directly to HATS to help other dogs, like Merlin, find their forever homes.

Merlin's favorite place was the grounds of Mountain Town Station, he would greet guests on their way to dinner, take swims in the river, beg employees for treats (with those sweet 'give-me-bacon' eyes of his, and terrorize squirrels by sitting under the trees and watching them..all..day..long.
So bring your furry best friends to our garden, make some friends, (possibly adopt one!?), and enjoy some hot dogs and pupcups, just like Merlin would have wanted.

*Please keep your dog leashed and make sure they are up-to-date on their vaccines*

We will have LIVE MUSIC from ZYDECO ZIGGIE & THE NATIONALS.
And Authentic Louisiana Cajun Food Buffet:
Shrimp & Grits, Jambalaya, Crawfish Boil, Creole Coleslaw, AND a cooked-to-order Beignet Station
if you’re unfamiliar with Beignets:
A beignet is a deep-fried pastry, often square-shaped, made from a yeast-leavened dough that puffs up to create a hollow center when fried. Originating in France, it's a staple in New Orleans, where it's famously served hot and covered in a generous amount of powdered sugar.

You may have seen earlier this week, Chef Steve met up with Alice Jo Ricketts, where she shared her recipes for traditional indigenous dishes. Steve got an A+ student award and passed the taste tests by Alice Jo, and now made another batch for this week!
So as promised, our soup du jour this week is:
Traditional Anishinaabe Corn Soup
A beloved Indigenous dish heavily featured in Saginaw Chippewa culture. It is prepared using hominy, simmered with a flavorful meat and broth, and served with a piece of traditional fry bread (that Alice Jo also helped him perfect!)

*this will be available tonight-Saturday, with the exception of Thursday, as we will be focusing solely on our Flavors of the World Dinner - Germany dinner.
**It will be available on DoorDash as well!

Alice Jo Ricketts joined Chef Steve Rudoni lll in the kitchen to share the art of making fry bread and corn soup, helping bring Indigenous culture and flavors to the table for future visitors to enjoy🙌🏼🔥

We had the best time learning, laughing, and cooking together. It’s partnerships like these that make our community special. We are incredibly grateful to Alice Jo, a member of Tribal Council, and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe for sharing your culture, traditions, and knowledge with us.💚
