Your coffee comes from Promotora de Desarrollo Cooperativo de las Segovias (PRODECOOP), a cooperative organization representing 38 local cooperatives and more than 2,700 producers. Approximately 27% of its members are women, nearly half are certified organic, and every producer is Fairtrade certified.
PRODECOOP was formed during the 1990s as Nicaragua began rebuilding after decades of dictatorship and civil war. By working together, small coffee producers gained better access to international markets and the ability to invest coffee revenue back into their communities.
