“Change affects our identities, and what it means for the way we live, love, and lead.”
-Brene Brown with Dr. Maya Shankar on the Dare to Lead podcast
Change can be scary and overwhelming, but it can also create opportunities. Change and adaptability have been looming consistently these past couple of years. First the pandemic created a change that knocked us all off our normal path, forcing us to do things differently. Slower, smaller, in new territory, and much of the time - harder. Always striving to make choices that would support the greater good.
The most important intention with our restaurant was to invest in our community, and add to the vitality of our beautiful community. A couple of years ago, I began searching for something that would not only add positivity to our community, but that would also be grounding and rewarding for me to pour my energy into while I operated our restaurant. For those of you who personally know me, you know that I am someone who enjoys genuine connections and helping other people. My handmade jewelry business Paper Bird Studio, which I started in ~2013 has always afforded a creative outlet and a connection to art and beauty, but not the “helping others” part that I wanted.
With our landlords not renewing our lease, it was a catalyst to shift my focus from an interest in sound therapy into a full-time opportunity. Walking and working with a serendipitous path this year - holding space for change, I have a new opportunity that I am elated to share with you. It checks all the boxes that I have been searching for. I am a Licensed and Certified Vibrational Sound Therapy Practitioner. My business is called Brain Body Balance Sound Therapy, and I have the great fortune to share a building with my incredible sister and brother-in-law in Pullman, WA. My sister, Liana Shull of Brain Body Balance, LLC, is an EMDR Therapist and Clinical Social Work/Therapist, LICSW. She is highly sought out for her renowned work in parts-work and EMDR. My brother-in-law, Jason Shull of Brain Body Balance Rocks, is a rock enthusiast. He has an amazing rock store in our building, and almost every rock specimen he finds in nature. Together we create a harmonious and love filled building environment, that our clients and customers feel as soon as they cross the threshold. It is such a special place, because of the energy and intention we bring into the space.
The focus of my work as a Vibrational Sound Therapy practitioner is to use my therapeutic Himalayan singing bowls to lessen a client’s level of stress and anxiety, and help invoke the body’s healing. In a time when our stress and anxiety is at a surge capacity, this modality of relaxation is beneficial for everyone. Appointments can be made on my website: www.brainbodybalancesoundtherapy.com
Sound healing isn’t something that just started:
“According to Tibetan oral tradition, the existence of singing bowls dates back to the time of the historical Buddha Shakyamuni (560 – 480 B.C.). The tradition was brought from India to Tibet, along with the teachings of the Buddha, in the 8th century A.D.The use of Tibetan healing bowls has been handed down from generation to generation in India, Nepal and Tibet. The practice has been used since 800 A.D.
Sound and vibration healing is an effective and proven modality that uses vibration and sound to help reduce stress, alter consciousness and create a deep sense of peace, well being and better health. Sound has also been shown to be effective in the healing process of cancer patients by reducing stress and aiding in pain management.
Playing the bowls usually causes an immediate centering effect. The tones set up a “frequency following response” that creates a balancing of the left/right brain synchronization. Meditating on the subtle sounds of the Tibetan singing bowl tunes one in to the universal sound, bringing it into the whole body, physically, spiritually and emotionally.”

Thank you for taking the time to read this post! My husband and I have deep gratitude for the support and encouragement that our community provided during our 11 years of business and during our closure. Showing up for our acoustic goodbye and sending messages of what Bloom meant to you, all deepened our commitment to our community.
With gratitude,
Nara
