There is SO MUCH HAPPENING at the Wrench this month 😮

We've got book signings, readings, book buys, and tattoos (?!?!) There is no shortage of ways to support the bookshop and local authors and artists in June.

🌻 We're buying used books on Monday, 6/8 from 5 - 7p. Good stuff only, please! We buy for store credit.

🌻 Author Andrew Moore (Pawpaw) will be with us on 6/4 to celebrate the release of his newest book! He'll be joined in conversation with Director Zach Fowler.

🌻 Authors Dave Housley, Aaron Burch, and Jake Maynard are kicking off our first Shelf Talk: an evening of readings and book chat. We'll have some of their work available for purchase!

🌻 Our friend and fellow bookseller Bella Olivo will be doing a tattoo pop-up! Lindsey sports some of Bella's whimsical work if you need IRL proof of how cute their work is. Check them out at —reserve your spot by emailing them at starchambertattoos @ g m a i l.com.

🌻 We're hosting Morgantown's inaugural Bloomsday celebration! Every June 16th, towns the world over read from Joyce's Ulysses and honor the author and his work. We'll have volunteers reading from Ulysses from 10 - 8p—costumes encouraged! Sign-up to read at the link in our bio.

🌻 Cumberland resident Rayelle Davis will be joining us to celebrate the release of her first book, Money in the Mountains, and talk about the cultural trauma of Appalachia (thanks to extractive industries and generational poverty).

So much good stuff happening to kick off the summer. Not to mention we'll have curated collections of books to celebrate Pride, Juneteenth, and more.

Help us spread the word—we hope to see you!

Holy moly, we’re hiring!

We have two part-time roles to fill:

✨ Barista Bookseller - We’re looking for a friendly, collaborative barista to join the team. If you’ve been in the shop, you know our folks behind the counter do it all: make delicious coffee and tea, recommend great reads, and make sure our customers feel seen and welcome. This role will mostly fill in staffing gaps and is expected to work at least one shift per week, including weekends.

✨ Community Outreach Coordinator - We need help with marketing, online and IRL communications, and event ex*****on. This is a hybrid position and will work closely with store leadership to develop an effective marketing strategy. While initial hours are limited, we expect this role, done well, to grow!

Job descriptions are linked in our bio. Please pay attention to application instructions and deadlines. We look forward to reviewing applications!

(No social media inquiries about these positions—thanks!)

☕️ New drink drop ☕️

Come grab yourself a Piper Maru: an oat milk latte with black sesame and a touch of vanilla! You can also add our 🛸 Black Oil syrup 🛸 to your chai, a capp, or - if you’re sick with the alien virus like Leslie - one of our italian sodas. Nutty, slightly sweet, and disconcertingly black!

ALSO: Have you seen play live yet? If not, tonight’s a great opportunity at the Wrench. See them before they blow up—you’re running out of time! Doors at 7. Grab a PODA cup from our friends at and come on down!

Friends,

Truth be told, West Virginia is a hard place to live for caring people. It’s tough sometimes not to get bogged down by the ways that people in power disappoint us, sell us out, then abandon us. A lot of us grieve our state’s wasted potential and frankly, it can be embittering if ya dwell too long.

When I feel this way, I like to scroll through my camera roll and be reminded of how far we’ve come—to feel hopeful again about where we’re headed. My friends reminded me today that what keeps us all here is each other. We’re building beloved community and looking out for our neighbors. We make music and art and food and love. We create spaces in the heart of what some of you describe as “Tr*mp country” where folks of all stripes are safe and seen and heard.

I’m grateful to everyone who supports this project. Who picks me up when I stumble over “goddamn why does it all have to be this way?” Thank you, thank you, for reminding me it doesn’t. Solidarity to anyone who loves a place, even when it doesn’t love you back.

🫂 + 🧨,

Lindsey
