We held our annual blind Chicken-Off this weekend with Maureen’s college friend and families (missing a couple of kiddos though 🙁): John’s Drive-In up against 2 other Montauk establishments’ fried chicken. Our visiting non-chicken lover prepped all while we waited very impatiently in blindfolds.

With 6 ounces of freshly ground, hand-pressed meat, bacon slices, cheese, lettuce and our secret special sauce, we think our Big John Burger with Bacon and Cheese is already pretty filling. Every once in a while, we have a customer who begs to differ. Today, Jen ordered a triple Big Bacon with cheese. She took it to go, so we have no pics of it actually getting eaten, so….we’ll just show it to you in all its glory before we wrapped it up. Jen, if you’re out there, we’d like pics!!!

We didn’t know it was possible, but somehow Maureen talked David into making a new flavor! “Blondies Have More Fun” makes its debut today. A chocolate ice cream with Blondie bites from South Fork Bakery and white chocolate chips, has already made it onto Maureen’s favorites list. Come on in before it sells out!

Have you tried any of the goodies from South Fork Bakery? We can vouch for the fact that their Brownies and Blondies are delicious (they bake lots of other items as well - we just haven’t tried them), and it’s a bakery worth supporting. Look them up to find out why.

And….We’ll be featuring their Brownies in our Brownie Sundaes this season!

If you ever had a chance to get ice cream from our ice cream truck, you saw Dave in his element. There’s nothing he loved more than serving up ice cream and smiles from that behemoth. He was pretty darn sad when we decided to sell.

He’s been begging to get back into the truck business ever since. This Spring, Maureen went with a compromise: this behemoth of an ice cream cart.

The cart’s gone on her maiden voyage this morning from the shop to Montauk’s Green for the Montauk Music Festival. We’ll be here all weekend, serving up ice cream treats, candied nuts, and smiles. Come visit!!

10 years ago today, we did a thing: we purchased the Drive-In back from Tom Pontecorvo (Tom ran it for 13 years while we stepped back to spend more time with our family). With college looming for our oldest, and both kids in their independent teen phase, we figured it was as good a time to get back to it as any. And great it’s been a great ride so far!! Here’s to many more (have we mentioned that retirement is NOT a word in Dave’s vocabulary????).
