We are easy to miss when passing through town, but once you stop, you’re sure to never miss us again! LynMarie’s occupies the former historical “Monroe House,” built in 1835 by Henry Tice. Tice originally created the building to house a hotel and ballroom in Monroeville, which at the time, was an ideal halfway rest between New York and Chicago. incoln, stayed in the Monroe House often during his travels, even dancing in the ballroom on the third floor. Since then, the building was converted into a series of store fronts, as well as a successful hardware business known as Hess Hardware. Once Hess Hardware closed after 125 years in business, the Monroe House sat empty for several years before LynMarie’s reopened its doors. Although the Monroe House now smells of fresh coffee and baked goodies instead of metal and paraffin, the original history is still intact. The shop features many of the building’s original characteristics, including brick walls and a pressed tin ceiling from the 1800’s. Menu items also feature bits and pieces of the town’s history, from the “Minty 1868” to the “Walt was Here,” every beverage has a story.
