No open mic Thursday night, but there will still be plenty of singing.

Higher Entertainment Band is taking over David’s 105 for a special showcase. Band members Kim Ivey, Sanchez Heard, & Jamal Hardge will take the lead on their own songs along with two additional featured performers: Marissa Engstrom & Laura Murren.

These clips remind me that some of the most beautiful moments happen when everyone joins in. At Higher Entertainment’s last show, the whole room sang Bob Marley together, and one of our patrons ended up onstage with Kim. We love seeing people in the room become part of the music and have fun. That’s what this is all about.

Entry is free. Doors open at 6:30 and music starts at 7:30. A $5 donation gets you a raffle ticket for a chance to win a 1½ hour Higher Entertainment show at a location of your choosing.

We’d love to have you in the room this Thursday! 💜

What happens when two of my favorite Open Mic regulars get together and form a band?

I don’t know yet, but tonight we get to find out. 👏🔥

You’ve seen Brent Echols with an electric guitar in his hands, and you’ve heard Kenny Coker sing on our stage. Tonight Brent is going acoustic, and they’ll be joined by Doug Banks and Brian Martin as local band Union Grove.

They’re opening for Nashville artist Paul RoseWood tonight at David’s 105 in Monroe, Ga.

Come support some of our favorite Monroe musicians and welcome Paul RoseWood to town! 💜 We’d love to have you in the room.

I’m not even pretending to be unbiased about this one. W***y Houston & the Ghost Town Revival are seriously one of my favorite local bands.

They play gritty rock ’n’ roll with smoky vocals, great storytelling, and some seriously good guitar work. They’re also genuinely great people which makes me even more excited to have them back.

This clip is from their last show at David’s 105. They return Saturday, September 12 with local musician Landyn Francis opening.

Paul RoseWood has a message for Monroe! He’s coming to David’s 105 this Friday, August 28.

Paul is a seriously talented songwriter and the kind of country artist we love introducing to our audience. The songs are strong, the music is unmistakably country, and he puts everything he has into every performance. We’re excited for Monroe to hear him.

Opening the show is local supergroup Union Grove, featuring Kenny Coker, Brent Echols, Doug Banks, and Brian Martin.

Buddy Guy is 90 years old, and last night he was every bit as amazing as I have ever seen him.

He is one artist I will always buy a ticket to see and make the drive to Atlanta for. Last night reminded me exactly why.

He could have retired a long time ago with absolutely nothing left to prove. Instead, he’s still walking onto stages, playing the blues and bringing people so much joy.

Thank you Buddy Guy for an incredible performance. And thank you for loving the blues and your fans enough to keep showing up and sharing your music with all of us. You are a true legend in every sense of the word.

Monroe’s own Jesse Bennett and Ty Bilsland opened as part of Taj Farrant’s band. I’ve watched both of those young men play on the David’s 105 stage, and last night I got to watch them take the stage in Atlanta and open for Buddy Guy.

There’s something incredibly special about seeing two young musicians we’ve cheered on right here at home get an opportunity like that. The David’s 105 family and Monroe could not be prouder of you guys. 🩵

And I think one of the best parts of the night was getting to tell everyone around us who y’all were when they asked. I guess all our yelling and the crazy number of pictures I was taking made it pretty obvious we knew y’all.

I have to say something about Taj Farrant, too. He is only 17, and his talent is absolutely unreal. It also says a lot about him that he recognizes the talent in other young musicians and gives them the opportunity to join him on tour.

From the David’s 105 stage to that stage: what a moment and what a night.

This is why we’ll book Rhonda Carrier every time.

The first clip is Rhonda singing “Happy Birthday” to my Gma on her 99th birthday earlier this year. My Gma was in hospice at the time, and Rhonda came to her assisted living home to do this for her. She passed away shortly afterward, so this little video and the memory behind it will always be very dear to me.

I’m glad the Rhondas of the world exist. We’re grateful for the talented people in our community, but we’re even more grateful for the good-hearted people who make it what it is. Rhonda is a local treasure because she’s both.

Rhonda has spent decades singing for people in and around Walton County. Many of you have probably had her sing “Happy Birthday” to you too.

And when Rhonda and The Still Cruisin’ Band take the stage, people don’t stay seated for long. They play the songs people know, people sing along and somebody usually ends up dancing.

They’ll be at David’s 105 this Saturday playing a full set of familiar classic rock. We’d love to see this community fill the room for them!
