Why do hops seem to hit the brakes after the summer solstice on June 21st?

Because even hops know when it’s time to stop climbing and start creating something delicious!

All spring long, hop vines race toward the sky, soaking up those long sunny days and building strong, leafy growth. But around the summer solstice — the longest day of the year — the plant gets the signal that the season is changing.

As daylight slowly begins to shorten, hops shift from growing tall to producing the beautiful flowers that become the fruit of a good beer.
