One Year of Kay & Jay’s Delights Bakery ❤️
One year ago, we took a leap of faith and became business owners. While it has been an exciting and rewarding journey, there is so much about owning a small business that no one can truly prepare you for.
The honest truth is that it is HARD. And sometimes, it is downright terrifying.
Between the rising costs of overhead—including electricity, gas for our ovens, packaging and supplies, our register system, rent, and countless other expenses—trying to price our products fairly, keeping up with personal bills, and still showing up every day with a smile for our customers, the past year has been a tremendous challenge.
We started Kay & Jay’s Delights Bakery with so much excitement and a genuine desire to bring something sweet and special to our little town of Mocanaqua. We had big hopes and dreams for what this bakery could become. However, the reality is that we are struggling to keep our doors open and stay financially afloat.
With the holiday season approaching, we are holding on to hope that things will improve. At the same time, the financial pressure and exhaustion are beginning to take their toll, and I can feel myself approaching burnout.
As difficult as it is to say, we are unsure what the future holds for Kay & Jay’s Delights Bakery. We may have to take a step back, reevaluate our situation while we figure out our next steps.
The reality is that we need financial support that we simply do not have right now. Bills are falling behind, expenses continue to add up, and we are finding it increasingly difficult to catch up.
One of the hardest parts of all of this is feeling the passion I once had for baking slowly being overshadowed by the stress of trying to keep a business running. Baking has always been something I love, and it breaks our hearts to feel that joy slipping away beneath the weight of financial worry.
Despite these challenges, we are not ready to give up. We still want to bake, create, and continue serving our community. But the truth is, we need your help now more than ever if we are going to keep moving forward.
Jeff and I are incredibly grateful for every single person who has supported us, placed an order, stopped by the shop, shared our posts, or continued to show up for us week after week. Your support has carried us through this first year, and we genuinely would not have made it this far without you.
They say the first year of owning a business is the hardest, and now we understand exactly why.
Opening this bakery was a dream, and we are still hoping we can find a way to keep that dream alive.
If you have been thinking about placing an order, stopping by, or supporting a small local business, now would mean more to us than you could ever imagine.
Thank you for being part of our first year, for believing in us, and for helping us bring a little sweetness to Mocanaqua. ❤️
With love and gratitude,
Kay & Jay’s Delights Bakery 🧁
