The Play Dead - Play Dead is composed of veterans from the Lawrence, KS., (LFK) music scene with a very diverse background - Jazz, Afro-beat, Alt-Country, Blues, Singer-Songwriter - to deliver a unique presentation of the music of the Grateful Dead. The band does not do a theater re-creation of the sound or shows of the Dead - there are plenty of fantastic bands that already do just that. Play Dead prefers to let the individual voices shine, putting their own twist on the catalog of Jerry Garcia and his cohorts “PlayDead embody the spirit of the Grateful Dead, less with theater and imitation, more with improvisation and passionate risk-taking, inviting the listener to hear the music anew.”
