Last night, our community experienced a heartbreaking tragedy near the Baker Hotel.

Out of respect for the individual involved and his loved ones, we initially chose to remain silent. However, as misinformation begins to circulate, we feel it is important to clarify a few things.

Members of our staff noticed an individual in a dangerous situation and immediately contacted law enforcement in hopes of getting him help. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of first responders, the situation ended in tragedy.

We want to make it clear that no footage of this incident was recorded inside Refs or by any Refs staff. The recordings being discussed were made by individuals outside our establishment.

Following the incident, we made the decision to immediately close Refs and clear the area out of respect for everyone involved and to prevent further disruption.

Our hearts are with the individual’s family, the first responders, and everyone who witnessed this devastating event.

We ask our community to please refrain from spreading rumors, making accusations, or sharing videos of someone’s final moments.

A life was lost. A family is grieving. And several members of our community witnessed something they will never forget.

Please lead with compassion, kindness, and respect.
