As the seasons begin to shift, one of our favorite places to visit is the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument Tekαkαpimək Contact Station!
Located in the southern portion of the Monument on Lookout Mountain, this state-of-the-art, world-class contact station is an experience in itself. The building’s architecture is deeply woven into the surrounding landscape, with sweeping views, beautiful natural materials, and thoughtfully designed spaces. It invites you to learn about the area’s natural and cultural history from a Wabanaki perspective, offering a deeper understanding of the land, its people, and the stories that have shaped this remarkable place.
The name Tekαkαpimək comes from the Penobscot language and translates to “as far as one can see,” and once you’re standing at the overlook, you’ll understand exactly why!
