We’ve had a lot of people asking what we have left to purchase at The Cozy Bean so we wanted to post an update! We will be at the shop tomorrow from 10am - 2pm so please come by if you’re interested in anything! We have plenty of decor items, food and bev supplies and commercial equipment to purchase. We also have office equipment and some random odds and ends. If you’d like to come by, please message Emily Green directly and let her know!

Hey Midway, we will begin a liquidation sale of all items at The Cozy Bean beginning tomorrow. We will be donating 10% of profits to our Cozy Bean staff to assist them financially while they make the transition and seek new employment. All appointments will be scheduled by first come first serve basis. If you have interest in any item at The Cozy Bean, please DM Emily Green directly. Did y’all know that The Cozy Bean was selected as “2022 Best of Liberty” for best coffee shop in Liberty & Long County?
Our little shop right here in Midway??!! Wow!

It is an amazing feeling to be recognized by your community and supporters and for that reason we say thank you! ❤️

We don’t know what the future holds for The Cozy Bean, but we wanted to take a second to say THANK YOU to all of you that supported us while we were here. ❤️❤️❤️

As small business owners in Midway, we have been so disheartened by all of the obstacles that we have gone through in the last year since opening the coffee shop. Here is a short list of some of those issues:

1. Old bank building was zoned residential and needed to be re-zoned commercial- Delaying our opening date by over 2 months.

2. Paying Liberty County & Midway for our signage at the head of the road, only to have to pay an “individual owner” $100 a month for the SAME SIGN because he owns the land.
(we fought through it)

3. A series of complaints with OSHA that our shop did not have fire extinguishers and emergency exit signage.
(we fought through it)

4. Complaints that we have an “unsafe” work environment due to MOLD in the building and that my employees & customers health are at risk.
(we fought through it)

5. Midway City Hall (Mrs. Lynette) outright REFUSING to renew my 2022 business license with no explanation or a WHY. It took me fighting with everyone and walking into the City Hall Building to file a complaint against the City to FINALLY get approval for my renewal.

6. The constant Health Department visits due to “complaints” all of which were proven false.
(we fought through it)

7. Being reported to Georgia wage and labor department that we have over 50 employees, net 500k a year and we don’t pay our employees minimum wage!

8. Complaints from another local business owner of our being “too busy” to not have to install a $12,000 hood & fire suppression system in our shop. That complaint led to MORE visits over the last several months from the Fire Marshall, Liberty County & Environmental Health.

Couple all of that with staffing issues, rising food cost, supply shortages & then our new equipment breaking down and well….this has not been an enjoyable experience.

All the while, hearing constant rumors & gossip about our family, our business and our staff that we DID NOT WANT TO BELIEVE. Up until this point, we tried to look past what others have said and done. We’ve tried to prove vigelliant In our efforts to keep our shop up and running by maintaining a fighting spirit.

But, we don’t want to fight anymore. We don’t want to keep defending our business in a town that is very different than what we thought it was. We get it….we’re outsiders. We’ve only lived in Midway for seven years and we are not “home grown”. But, we DID consider Midway home and we tried our best to make our town proud.

How much more money and time do we continue to invest to meet the demands of running a business for a community that obviously doesn’t want us here? When is enough, enough? For us it’s now.

No place is perfect, we get it. But, we have a CHOICE of being here and Midway is NOT the place that we choose to continue our business.

Owning a business here does not feel good anymore and we’re tired of raging against the machine to try and convince ourselves otherwise. Thank you to all of you that did support us and we hope to see some of you while we work to make our transition away from Midway.

The Cozy Bean will not re-open.

And it continues…We arrived this morning to our ice machine not producing ice. 😩 We have contacted warranty department but are waiting for an ETA of repairs. We will update as soon as we KNOW ANYTHING. However, we are closed until further notice.
