Twelve Years Later...I Still Remember the Beginning.

Twelve years ago this month, Raw South started with an idea, a set of keys, and a whole lot of faith.

I still remember getting the keys to our little space, my kids helping remove the old lettering from the windows, painting the walls and chalkboards ourselves, and putting up that first “Coming Soon” sign. Even before that, I was in my kitchen testing juices and taking pictures in my backyard, imagining what Raw South could become.

I could never have imagined everything these 12 years would hold.

My children grew up alongside this business. Employees became family. Customers became friends. And Raw South became so much more than a place to grab a juice or a healthy meal. It became part of our community.

There have been beautiful seasons and incredibly difficult ones, but through every version of Raw South, you have continued to show up.

If you’ve ever walked through our doors, ordered from us, brought a friend, shared a post, left a review, or simply told someone about Raw South, you are part of these 12 years.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for growing with us. 💚

Small Businesses Can't Survive on

There’s something I’ve learned after 12 years in business:

We often don’t realize how much a small business means to us until we hear it’s closing.

Then come the comments: “I loved that place.” “I can’t believe they’re closing.” “I’ve been meaning to stop by.”

But by then, it’s too late.

Behind every small business is a real person who took a risk. Someone who signed the lease, invested their savings, missed family dinners, worked when they were sick, worried about payroll, and kept showing up even during the months when they weren’t sure how they were going to make it.

I know, because I’ve lived it for 12 years.

And I look around our shopping center and see other entrepreneurs doing exactly the same thing. These aren’t big corporations. They’re our neighbors. They’re families. They’re people fighting to keep a dream alive.

Supporting a small business doesn’t require a grand gesture. Buy the Juice.
Order lunch. Bring a friend. Leave the review. Share the post. Tell someone about the place you love.

Because every time you choose a small business, you’re voting for it to still be there tomorrow.

So don’t wait for the “Going Out of Business” sign to remember how much you loved a place.

Show up while the doors are still open.

Raising the Next Generation of Confident Leaders

One of the most meaningful things to grow out of my journey as an entrepreneur has been Global Future Founders—a program created to give kids and teens practical skills they can carry with them for life.

This month, we’re hosting Speak With Confidence: Communication Skills for Kids & Teens, a completely FREE workshop designed to help young people become more comfortable speaking up, expressing themselves and communicating with confidence.

With guest speakers from Toastmasters, kids ages 8–17 will learn public-speaking basics and practice skills that can help them in school, future interviews, leadership roles and everyday life.

Breakfast Just Got Better

We’ve been busy in the Raw South kitchen, and we’re excited to introduce some new breakfast creations — available ALL DAY.

We wanted to create breakfast options that are satisfying, protein-packed and still have that Raw South twist you know and love.

From our Protein Everything Bagel with scrambled eggs, turkey picadillo, avocado mash and vegan cream cheese, to our Sweet Potato Breakfast Patty topped with egg, avocado and feta, these are the kinds of breakfasts made to keep you going.

For something a little sweet, our new Guava Toast combines sprouted toast, vegan cream cheese, guava and a touch of Himalayan salt. Simple, unexpected and so good.

And for our serious protein lovers, we’ve created a Protein Breakfast Platter featuring two fried eggs, our signature salad, homemade hummus, avocado mash and our house-made salmon pâté — a hearty, nutrient-dense breakfast that brings plenty of protein, healthy fats and fresh ingredients together on one plate.

Breakfast shouldn’t have an expiration time. Around here, it’s breakfast ALL DAY.

The only time we seem to remember how much we love our small businesses is when we hear they’re closing. And by then, it’s too late.

This little shopping center is FULL of entrepreneurs who show up every day, open their doors, employ people, serve their community and put everything they have into what they do. Raw South, Best Subs, Brick Burgers, pizza, tailoring, shoe repair, a courier service, a hair dresser, a shoe store and more.

These aren’t big corporations. These are your neighbors. These are families. These are people chasing a dream and trying to keep it alive.

Don’t wait until you see a “Going Out of Business” sign to say how much you loved a place.

Go today. Buy the lunch. Get the juice. Fix the shoes. Use the service. Tell a friend. Leave the review.

I may not be standing in this picture, but when I look at it, I see all three of us.

I see Yuli, who decided to transform her health and her life. On October 29, she will celebrate one full year of staying committed to her journey.

I see Maria, who recently decided to become stronger. After we talked about the importance of building and preserving muscle as we age, she began going to the gym consistently and is now fully committed to her journey.

And behind them, I see Raw South.

I see the business that has challenged me, stretched me and helped shape the woman I have become. Through Raw South, I have grown, fallen, risen, learned and changed in ways I never could have imagined when I first opened its doors.

The three of us are in different stages of life, but we are all still evolving. That is what feels so powerful to me.

As women, we have the power to choose.

We can choose to want something different. We can choose to become healthier, stronger and more confident. We can change direction, begin again and choose ourselves at any age and in any chapter of our lives.

There is no expiration date on becoming the woman you know you can be.

I am so proud of Yuli and Maria, and I am proud of the woman Raw South has helped me become. Most of all, I am deeply grateful that this journey has surrounded me with women I truly love. 💚

“Stress is the enemy—not your partner.” 🤍

That was one of the most powerful reminders from today’s conversation with Ginelle.

Ginelle shared three simple but meaningful ways couples can begin reconnecting tonight:

✨ Find realistic daily rituals that belong to the two of you.
✨ Stay curious about each other, just as you were when you first started dating.
✨ Keep the lines of communication open, especially when life feels heavy.

I loved Ginelle’s candidness and her fresh, practical, modern perspective on relationships. No unrealistic expectations and no “perfect relationship” advice—just intentional ways to find your way back to one another.

Because sometimes getting “back to us” doesn’t require a grand gesture. It begins with one small ritual, one honest conversation, and the willingness to keep learning the person you love.

This was such a beautiful conversation and one I believe every couple needs to hear. 🤍

Back to What Matters

This month’s newsletter brings together three meaningful stories. First, I’m sharing What Makes Us Grow, a space centered on wellness, education, and community. Next, I’m inviting you to join Ginelle Alvarez and me for Back to School, Back to Us, an honest conversation about how the school-year transition affects parents and their relationships. Finally, I’ll share what’s next for Global Future Founders as we continue helping young people develop practical skills and confidence for life.

Each story is different, but they all come back to the same purpose: helping our community grow healthier, stronger, and more connected.

What Makes Us Grow.

I created What Makes Us Grow because the different parts of my life have never felt separate.

Raw South began as a place to nourish people through food, but over time it became much more: a space where people shared their health journeys, challenges, families and lives with me.

Global Future Founders grew from that same desire to help children develop the confidence, practical knowledge and life skills they need to thrive.

My own journey is part of this story too. As a mother, entrepreneur, wellness advocate and community builder, I have grown through success, but also through uncertainty, loss, difficult decisions and moments when I had to begin again.

What Makes Us Grow brings these pieces together in a space for honest conversations about wellness, education, business, motherhood, purpose and community.

The deeper question is not simply, “Are we growing?” It is, “What is helping us grow, and who are we becoming along the way?”

Back to School Back to Us

When children return to school, the entire household feels the shift. Schedules fill up, responsibilities increase and parents become so focused on keeping everything moving that they may forget to ask how everyone—including themselves—is adjusting.

That is why I invited Ginelle Alvarez, LMFT, to join me for Back to School, Back to Us. We’ll have an honest conversation about anxiety, communication, boundaries, changing friendships and academic pressure—and how parents can stay connected to their children, their partners and themselves through it all.

Preparing Children For Real Life

Children spend years learning academic subjects, yet many reach adulthood without being taught how to communicate confidently, manage money, resolve conflict or take responsibility for their choices. These are not optional skills. They are life skills.

Global Future Founders helps children ages 8 to 17 develop the confidence and practical knowledge they need for the real world.

This September, our upcoming four-week Life Skills Series will cover communication, first impressions, email etiquette, time management, conflict resolution, basic finances and personal responsibility.

We are also working to bring Global Future Founders into more schools, libraries and after-school spaces—because every partnership brings us closer to reaching another child.
