With a heavy heart, we are sad to share that Jiwa Singapura will be closing in its current location at Tysons Corner, effective [Monday, December 4] — but we are looking forward to bringing the Singaporean food and culture to another location in the future.

We are incredibly grateful to our guests and especially our talented, wonderful team who supported us throughout this journey. Thank you all and hope to see you soon.

This National Pastry Day, meet the mastermind behind our pastries/desserts—Chef Karina Sibrian, an accomplished pastry chef originating from the vibrant culinary traditions of El Salvador.

Chef Karina's journey to becoming a distinguished pastry chef in the United States is a testament to her unwavering dedication and passion for the art of baking.
In pursuit of her culinary dreams, Karina made the bold decision to immigrate to the United States, a land of diverse opportunities and culinary adventures. Upon arrival, she faced the challenges of adapting to a new culture and language, but her indomitable spirit and love for baking fueled her determination.

Karina's culinary journey in the U.S. began with humble origins – working in local bakeries in Washington D.C. and gaining invaluable experience in different kitchens. Her hard work and perseverance captured the attention of seasoned chefs who recognized her innate talent and guided her on her path to excellence. One of those chefs was Chef Pepe who offered her a job as Pastry chef at Jiwa Singapura where she continues to grow and evolve her skills every day and continues to fall in love with her craft.

Meet Sous Chef Alexis Cabrera.

Originally from El Salvador, Chef Alexis Cabrera discovered his calling early in life. As a young boy, his family exposed him to local and international marketplaces for fruits and vegetables, fostering his loyalty to fresh, locally sourced ingredients and his love for cooking.

Upon his arrival in the U.S., he enrolled in Hospitality and Tourism classes during high school. After graduation, this experience motivated him to attend and graduate from Carlos Rosario Culinary Arts School in Washington D.C. By the age of 23, Chef Alexis had already become the kitchen manager at different restaurants in the Metropolitan Area, developing expertise in seafood.

In 2019, he joined Chef Pepe Moncayo’s team to open Cranes. Under Chef Pepe’s leadership and diligence, Cranes was honored with the coveted Michelin Star by 2021—Chef Alexis's first. The renowned expertise and respect that Chef Alexis has for Chef Pepe Moncayo inspire him to continue learning, grow professionally, and embark on any adventures proposed by Chef Pepe, as he is currently doing at Jiwa Singapura.
