Let me share a little something I’ve learned about the coffee business: there are some truly good people behind those cups. 🤎☕
When I started this journey a year ago, one thing I knew for sure was I loved Jesus, my kids, my grandbabies, and a good cup of coffee. What I didn’t know was how to run a coffee shop. I took a leap of faith with a whole lot of questions—and thankfully, I haven’t had to figure it all out alone.
My business partner, Gene Parnell, has been there through the excitement, the uncertainty, and all my moments of overthinking. He keeps me grounded and reminds me that tomorrow is another day. I’m grateful for his patience and steady encouragement.
And then there’s my Yellowhammer Coffee family.
For years, that was my daily stop for a little heaven in a cup. Those familiar faces became friends. They knew my order before I could say it. Even the UPS man knew it and brought me coffee once! I guess I wasn’t keeping that habit a secret. 😂
When I decided to buy River Landing, I was excited, but I was also sad knowing I wouldn’t see that sweet crew every day.
I remember telling Will the news. He was so happy for me, gave me a hug, and told me the Yellowhammer team was there if I needed anything.
I cried right there in the shop. His kindness meant more than he probably realized.
A year later, Will, Jeff, and Mo have continued to offer help and encouragement. They have their own responsibilities, yet they’ve made time for me. As someone still learning every day, I can’t tell you how much that means.
I’ve thanked God many times for placing these people in my path. When I look back, I see His goodness in the friendships and support that have helped carry me through.
It’s also reminded me how much a simple act of kindness can matter. Answering a question. Offering reassurance. Being happy for someone who is just getting started.
Brew Y’all, you’re part of those memories, too. Your visits to Springhill Hospital were such a treat during our workdays. We looked forward to seeing you, and I still remember those midmorning coffees with a smile.
My heart is with the small businesses working hard to serve their communities. I know a little more now about the hope, sacrifice, and prayer that go into opening those doors each day.
If you have a favorite local coffee shop, show them some love when you can. Stop by, leave a kind review, share their post, or tell a friend. Those little things mean so much to the people behind the counter.
