"What is that tree-looking thing?

It's not a tree-it's the bloom stalk of a Havard agave!

Also known as the century plant, this desert succulent can grow for 20-50 years before sending up a towering bloom stalk up to 23 feet tall! These yellow-flowered giants only bloom once before the plant dies, making each sighting rare and special.
In Big Bend, the endangered Mexican long-nosed bat plays a key role in pollinating them, feeding on nectar with a 3-inch tongue!

Indigenous peoples used the leaves for fiber, bloom stalks for building, and roasted the heart for food. A true desert survivor.
If you spot one blooming, pause and enjoy-these moments don't last long.” -

Happy (day-late) Mother’s Day to our General Manager, Adeline, who keeps this place running smoother than our nitro cold brew. If you’ve called, emailed, or stopped by, chances are you’ve talked to her.

And yes, that’s someone else’s baby, but you should see her son, Oliver 🥹☕️

Thanks for all you do!

Our very own Joe is doing a Spring Membership Drive spot on from 6-9 AM on Friday. Tune in to donate and receive the gift of BBCR ☕️

For years, federal funding was a crucial pillar of support for Marfa Public Radio. Now that pillar is gone, but the mission remains. This is an opportunity to build a version of this station that is 100% West Texas - powered by the people who live, work, and listen here.

When you support the Spring Membership Drive, you aren’t just “saving” a station; you are investing in a permanent community resource. Give now, for today, for tomorrow, and for West Texas.

“Portraits of Casa Grande 🌄

At 7,325 feet, Casa Grande is one of the easiest features to pick out in the Chisos. I've always love how its steep face catches the light in a way that, from the right angle, makes it look like a massive tooth sticking up over the Basin.”

Just a quick heads up—starting April 1st, our prices will be increasing.

We’ve always believed good coffee doesn’t need to be complicated, but it does need to be done right. This change helps us keep it that way.

If you’ve been thinking about a subscription, now’s a good time to jump in—those won’t be affected.

We’re grateful to have you along for the ride. Stay caffeinated, friends.
