We planted our blueberry field in early, mid, and late-season varieties. Right now, the stars of the show are our Duke blueberries. They are BIG, gorgeous, sweet, and ready to go.
👉 Head all the way to the FAR RIGHT side of the field.
Those are the rows you want.
The fruit stand crew will try to point you in the right direction, but sometimes they get busy and forget. You’ll be tempted to stop and pick berries in the other rows on your way there.
Don’t do it.
Those blueberries are lying to you. 😑
Keep walking.
Trust the Duke.
Here’s another secret squirrel tip:
Most people get to the Duke rows, start at the top, fill their buckets, and leave. If you’re serious about getting volume, go to the BOTTOM of the row and work your way up.
You’ll find more berries and less competition.
Also, most people pick only the upper half of the bushes.
Bring someone short. 🥳
☀️ HOT WEATHER PICKING TIP
Wear a loose-fitting 100% cotton long-sleeve shirt and a wide-brimmed hat. Keeping the sun off your skin and head makes a surprising difference in how comfortable you stay.
🪣 MY PERSONAL BLUEBERRY PICKING HACK
I wear my grandpa’s ❤️ old leather belt and hook the bucket handle through it so the bucket hangs from my waist.
That leaves both hands free to pick.
It’s faster.
And it always feels like Grandpa is out there with me.
