If we don't continue to advocate for the affordable housing we were promised, we won't get it!

Sign the petition to government and elected officials letting them know their word is on the line, and they need to uphold their commitment.

Residents like Christine have been advocating to improve the quality of life for Hell’s Kitchen residents and the housing we need for decades.

As she shows, we haven’t forgotten what the City promised and it’s time they live up to their commitment.

If you agree SHARE and LIKE Christine’s video.

We've waited 15 years for the City to build affordable housing for middle-class New Yorkers at 54th & 9th. We're almost there but need your help to watch our short video, email our electeds and tell all your friends and neighbors. Our Community Board, MCB4, is in negotiations with the City to get...

Rents in Manhattan are going up for EVERYONE, especially the middle class.

This report by Douglas Elliman shows that the average rent for a two bedroom is over $5,000, which means even families who are earning low triple-figures are rent burdened.

The City needs to stick to its promise and build the affordable, middle class apartments we were promised on the MTA site, allowing these families to live in Hell's Kitchen.

Rents rose 23.3% year over year to hit $3,467, the report says

During the last Community Board 4 hearing on The Lirio, a representative from the MTA said it was impossible to change the way they operate out of their midtown office building. Well, apparently that’s not true.

Not only did they move some of this work to downtown Brooklyn because of the pandemic, but most importantly the Daily News reported in this article: “Employees at the Brooklyn location — who requested anonymity — said splitting up the control center had no impact on operations.”

When there’s a will there’s a way, so let’s continue to push for the affordable housing Hell’s Kitchen was promised!

The omicron wave has forced the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to relocate some crews out of the agency’s sprawling Midtown rail control center, the subway’s central nervous system where service is managed and monitored around the clock.

The numbers prove it!

New York City is not building enough housing, making it more expensive for everyone and we'll lose our competitive edge to other cities across the country.

We were promised more apartments in 2005 and they still haven't been built, but are needed now more than ever!

New York City approved less new housing per resident than any other Northeast city in 2020.

“It really is just shocking to me how the city can just sit here so plain-faced and just present something that really considers nothing of the past decade of work," LeFrancois said.

A Hell's Kitchen board blasted the city for failing to change a 9th Avenue housing development. A second project got a more mixed reception.

If the Area Median Income (AMI) bands that were presented at last nights CB4's Land Use meeting for The Lirio look familiar, that's because they are the EXACT SAME bands we saw in November.

This is despite CB4 requesting these bands be increased to make sure middle class families who live in Hell's Kitchen - but are rent burdened - can stay in the community.

As the rezoning moves forward, it's up to all of us to continue speaking out and make sure the city gives Hell's Kitchen what was promised in 2005, affordable housing for middle income families.

The first big public hearing is THIS WEDNESDAY (1/12) AT 6:30PM, where Manhattan Community Board 4's Land Use Committee will be holding a meeting about the The Lirio.

This is the beginning of ULURP - the process which city zoning codes can be changed - and the scheme will go to the full Community Board for a vote.

It's very important as many residents as possible take this opportunity to make sure our voices are heard.

How to testify, and talking points to help us get our reasoning is clear, have been included in the email that was recently sent to our subscribers, which you can see by clicking the link below.

Help us get the word out by SHARING this post, and if you are not already, you can subscribe to our e-newsletter.

See you Wednesday night!

Help us advocate for the affordable housing Hell’s Kitchen was promised!

We’ll be making short videos with residents across the community and posting them online so elected and government officials understand why we are against the scheme to build The Lirio.
