🫧🧼Let's talk about soap!🧼🫧

Soap is made through a chemical process called saponification, which is when fats are combined with a strong alkali. The reaction transforms the ingredients into two new compounds: soap and glycerin. The chemical process takes time, which is why soap has to cure several weeks after being made. 📅🗓

📜Soap making dates back about 5,000 years to ancient Babylon. Historically, the alkali was made from wood ash, then combined with animal fats. 🪵🧈

Generally speaking, homemade soaps today will have a few types of oils, combined with lye, plus whatever extras people add for fun. 🧼🌻🌿

🫧We make our soap with several different oils and fats that make it very rich, nourishing, and sudsy. 🫧

We have two scents: jasmine and honeysuckle. 🌸🌼

Mayhaw jelly and quick dill pickles are on the stand.🌳🥒

We don't order or purchase mayhaws; we pick and gather them. So when we sold out around Christmas, we knew it would be several months before we could make more.
The wait is over! But as always, the goodies on our stand are seasonal and local. When it's sold out, it won't be back until next season. 😬

The stand is open with fresh sourdough bread and artisan baguettes. 🍞🥖

Box turtles typically choose nest areas very near the prior year's. In fact, they are extreme homebodies and usually live their whole lives within about a 500 yard radius from where they were born.

🤔 Did you know that Spanish moss blooms? Well, now you know.

Spanish moss puts out teeny tiny green or yellow blooms every spring and early summer. The blooms also have a faint sweet smell. Its flowers develop into seed pods that travel, settle, and grow on new branches.

Spanish moss is not parasitic. It is an epiphyte, meaning it grows on other plants for structural support but does not draw nutrients from them. It is a vital habitat for birds, amphibians, and insects. Plus, it's pretty. 😍
