Welcome Bay View Yacht Racers! An interesting connection between Grand Hotel and the Bayview Yacht Race is a famous Michigan cocktail. Jerome Adams agreed to work as a dishwasher at the Bayview Yacht Club for three weeks, but actually never left. In 1967, he replaced longtime bartender, Curtis Hicks, who was famous for concocting dozens of imitative cocktails, but Adams needed a signature drink of his own. Ed Jacoby, owner of Jacoby's Restaurant in Detroit, tried Adams latest ice cream drink concoction and exclaimed, "After a couple of these damn things, they make you start to hum!" And so the famous Hummer was born. Adams traveled to yacht race finish lines around the world with two large blenders in tow, serving up his magical elixir to be enjoyed for many generations to come.
